March 17, 2026 -  On-campus activities cancelled

Dear students, faculty, and staff,

Due to the ongoing impact of the winter storm, Laurentian University will remain closed for on-campus activities on Tuesday, March 17, 2026. However, the University will transition to online and remote operations where possible.

While our facilities crews have been working tirelessly and main campus roads are clear, building entrances and emergency exits are still being cleared. Furthermore, we recognize that while main city arteries are opening, many residential neighborhoods remain snowed in. With more adverse weather expected this evening, clearing efforts are likely to remain a significant challenge.

This decision was made with much consideration, as we realize our current academic term is compressed and we are doing all we can to adapt.

March 17 academic activities:

  • All in-person classes are cancelled. Faculty are strongly encouraged to move instruction online where possible. Students should check their D2L/Brightspace or University email for specific instructions from their instructors.
  • All non-essential staff are asked to work from home.
  • Students currently in placements should check in with their placement site supervisor. Please only attend if the site remains open and you can travel there safely.
  • On-campus services (gym, library, etc.) remain closed. Only essential on-site personnel should report to campus.

Please continue to prioritize your safety and avoid unnecessary travel. We expect to resume normal on-campus operations on Wednesday, March 18, pending a final assessment of conditions.

Your safety remains our highest priority.
