Laurentian University recognizes the importance of creating work and learning environments that support the health, comfort, and productivity of all community members. Through our ergonomic procurement practices, we ensure that purchased goods, equipment and furnishings promote physical well-being, reduce strain, and minimize the risk of injury for users across campus.
Ergonomics focuses on designing and selecting products that accommodate the diverse physical needs of individuals and support safe and efficient work practices.
In its simplest form, ergonomic procurement means intentionally selecting goods and services that:
- Reduce physical strain and repetitive stress, including options that minimize bending, lifting, and awkward postures;
- Support adjustability, allowing users to tailor equipment (such as seating, desks, monitors, and tools) to their individual ergonomic needs;
- Promote comfort and usability, enabling faculty, staff, and students to perform tasks efficiently without unnecessary fatigue;
- Enhance long-term health outcomes, by reducing the likelihood of musculoskeletal disorders and workplace injuries.
