About Micro-Credential Pilot Program

This micro-credential program will be offered from January 5th to December 13, 2026 and includes six self-directed micro-courses complemented by hands-on experiences through field trips, networking events, and a mini-mentorship program. Several scheduled in-class check-in meetings throughout the program provide opportunities for discussion, reflection, and support.

The aim of the program is: to create a strong, skilled workforce for the mineral resources sector. It provides essential skills and knowledge that meet employer needs. By addressing skill gaps and promoting collaboration, it ensures workforce growth, adaptability, and alignment with industry standards.

Target learner group: The micro-credential is designed for post-secondary students looking to enter the industry, newcomers to Canada seeking to adapt to the local mining landscape, and industry professionals (< 5 years experience) aiming to enhance their skills and knowledge.

Project Management Essentials This self-directed online course consists of 15 interactive modules featuring voiceovers, animations, and case simulations. It introduces key project management tools and techniques in a practical, jargon-free way, aligned with PMI’s PMBOK standards. 8

Jan 5 – 30, 2026

Health & Safety in Mining (Minerva Modules 100 & 200) Provides a comprehensive foundation in workplace health and safety, risk management, and professional ethics. Covers hazard identification, legal frameworks, the Hierarchy of Controls, mental health, leadership, and ethics through case studies. 20

Feb 2 - March 27, 2026

Introduction to the Canadian Mineral Resources IndustryExplores Canada’s mining industry, its economic role, regulations, and social responsibilities. Includes content on exploration, funding, Indigenous rights, and CSR.24

March 30 – June 19, 2026 

(12 weeks) 

Leadership in Action: Professional Integration in the Mineral SectorImmerses learners in real-world contexts through field visits, networking events, and a mini-mentorship program. Focuses on professional identity, inclusive leadership, and communication within the mineral sector. 20

Intercultural, Gender, and Indigenous Awareness: How to Become an Ally in the Mineral Resources Industry Examines Indigenous history, culture, and intercultural awareness. Builds understanding of allyship, gender equity, and human rights through MiHR modules, storytelling, and respectful exploration of Indigenous experiences and perspectives. 25 

Aug 31 – Oct 23 

(8 weeks) 

Essential Skills to Succeed in the Mineral Resources Industry  Adapted from MiHR’s Mining Potential program, this course builds essential communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. Includes career readiness, networking, and safety-focused workplace practices. 20
