Born in 1951 (Yikes!), I grew up in Chicago, brought up by a single mother along with my sister. I have three beautiful daughters and 6 pretty cool grandkids…I received my Ph.D. in 1984 at UBC in Anthropology with a focus on linguistics. Then I spent 11 years living in a First Nation community from 1979-1990 (Pikogan) as the Coordinator of the Language and Culture Program.
In 1990 I was invited to come to LU to teach in the Indigenous Studies Program where I stayed until 2012. I took early retirement to write my debut novel and then in 2017 I was asked to come out of retirement to teach in the Dept. of Anthropology. I’ve written two award-winning academic books and published my debut novel The Interview in 2020.
My passion has always been teaching, and I consider myself to be the luckiest guy in the world to have the opportunity to hang out with you guys!
