(January 14, 2026 – Sudbury, Ontario) - Laurentian University is proud to announce the next evolution of its School of Engineering and Computation, marking both the conclusion of the Bharti School naming term and the beginning of a new chapter for the renowned programs.
For the past 15 years, the Bharti School of Engineering and Computation has stood as a symbol of excellence, innovation, and partnership. Established through the generosity of Stan Bharti, founder of Forbes & Manhattan, the School has inspired generations of engineers and researchers whose work has shaped industries and strengthened communities.
Throughout its history, the Bharti School has achieved national and international recognition. Laurentian’s students have demonstrated leadership and ingenuity. Students have competed on the national and international stages, bringing home many accolades for the school. Most recently, this success was evidenced by our SNObots, a robotics initiative that saw students take home awards in multiple categories at a competition in South Korea. Past competitions saw students take home awards at the Canadian Mining Games, the Canadian Engineering Competitions, the Over the Dusty Moon Challenge (hosted by the Colorado School of Mines), and many others. Transformative investments from industry partners such as IAMGOLD and Hard-Line have further enhanced the School’s capacity for research, experiential learning, and student success.
“We are grateful to Stan Bharti for his vision and support,” said Dr. Lynn Wells, President and Vice-Chancellor of Laurentian University. “He helped to elevate the success of our engineering and computer science programs in a significant way. We will build upon this strong foundation to further advance the evolving strengths and ambitions of our School of Engineering and Computation.”
As Laurentian embarks on this next phase, the University will explore opportunities for new partnerships and philanthropic support to advance teaching, research, and innovation in engineering and computer sciences.
“It has been incredibly rewarding to see how the Bharti School has flourished over the past 15 years,” said Stan Bharti. “The students and faculty have accomplished great things, and I’m proud of the role I’ve played in that journey. As this chapter closes, I’m looking forward to helping Laurentian find its next partner who will continue to support and inspire the future of engineering education.”
“The Bharti School holds a proud history for which we are grateful. Laurentian’s School of Engineering and Computation is dedicated to fostering leaders who will imagine, design, and drive the technologies, industries, and sustainable solutions of the future.” added Dr. Joy Gray-Munro, Dean of the Faculty of Science, Engineering, and Architecture.
