Patrick Ladouceur
Biography
Patrick Ladouceur is a proud Franco-Ontarian and an assistant professor at the School of Social Work at Laurentian University. His research and teaching interests encompass social justice, social and public policies (including poverty, housing, domestic violence, and community health), domestic violence, interventions in minority Francophone contexts, Franco-Ontarian activism, critical theories, and critical discourse analysis.
He holds a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Law as well as a Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Ottawa. His doctoral thesis focuses on the role of social justice in Francophone social struggles in Canada, highlighting their definitions of social justice and documenting actions taken for its advancement.
With nearly 12 years of experience in community development and several years of involvement in federal and provincial public service in Ontario and Nova Scotia, Patrick previously served as Manager of Projects and Policies at the Domestic Violence Initiatives Unit at the Nova Scotia Department of Justice before joining Laurentian University.
Patrick is actively engaged in his community; he serves on the board of directors of the North End Community Health Centre in Halifax and is an administrator with the John Howard Society of Nova Scotia. He has also served on the French Language Services Advisory Committee for the City of Ottawa from 2014 to 2022, the board of directors of the Outaouais Intervention and Prevention Centre for Addiction from 2017 to 2019, and as vice-president and board member of the Downtown Ottawa Community Health Centre from 2015 to 2021.
In terms of research, Patrick is a member of the FemAnVi research collective and actively participates in several research projects on domestic violence funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) of Canada. He is also a member of the editorial board of the journal Reflets: Social and Community Intervention Review.
