Meet the Goodman School of Mines Advisory Board Experts
Role of the Advisory Board:

Provide advice regarding new initiatives and long-range goals, to more effectively respond to the emerging needs of the mining industry.

Review currency of programming and research agendas, providing perspective on expectations of graduates and emerging mining challenges, and offer feedback on existing programs and research.

Advocate for the School (within industry, relevant government agencies, professional societies, etc.), actively opening new avenues of community engagement, collaboration, research and knowledge dissemination.

Promote the School publicly, through sharing an understanding of the School and its programs and celebrating its achievements.

Serve as a communications bridge and “think tank” to connect the School with other sectors of the community and animate a dynamic exchange of ideas so that the School may best contribute to the changing needs of the mining industry and those working in it.

Develop good relations between the School and the larger mining community and relate the priorities and concerns of that community to the School.

Aid the School in its efforts to secure the resources required to be globally competitive in attracting and retaining excellent faculty, staff and students.

Individually partner with the School as guest lecturers, seminar participants, career advisors, etc.

Use personal contacts to enable faculty and students to gain workplace exposure, with a particular focus on emerging trends and practices.

Annually review and provide advice to the Executive Director with regard to the expenditure of undesignated private sector gifts and endowment disbursements.
Advisory Board Members

Ned Goodman
(1937 – 7 August 2022)
Founder, Dundee Corp
Ned Goodman has made transformative and enduring contributions to Canada’s minerals industry and capital markets as a company-builder, merchant banker and investment advisor during a dynamic career spanning almost half a century. He applied his geological training and business acumen to help build several successful mining companies — notably International Corona and Kinross Gold — and nurtured many other mineral-producing companies through astute and timely investments. In addition to being an outstanding member of the philanthropic community, Montreal-born Goodman is considered one of the leading architects of Canada’s investment management industry.
Along with his partners, he founded the first exploration flow-through partnership, CMP Group, which has raised almost $5 billion since the 1980s to help companies explore and develop mining and petroleum companies, leading to the generation of jobs and benefits for rural and northern economies in Canada. He was also the driving force of the Dundee group of financial companies, which grew under his leadership from a $300-millionbase to a $50-billion mutual fund entity.

Jonathan Goodman
Chairman & CEO of Dundee Corporation
Jonathan Goodman is Chairman and CEO of Dundee Corporation, a diversified holding company with investments in companies in the wealth management, resources, agriculture and real estate verticals and President and CEO of Dundee Goodman Merchant Partners, a mining focused merchant bank.
Mr. Goodman has over 30 years of experience in the resource and investment industry, working as a geologist, senior analyst, portfolio manager and senior executive. Mr. Goodman joined Goodman & Company, Investment Counsel Ltd. in 1990, where he was responsible for the selection of Canadian equities and played a major role in developing asset allocation strategies, before becoming the company’s President. He is also the founder of Goepel Shields and Partners, an investment firm.
Mr. Goodman graduated from the Colorado School of Mines as a Professional Engineer, holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Toronto and is a Chartered Financial Analyst. Mr. Goodman also serves as the executive in residence for the Faculty of Management at Laurentian University.

Dominic M. DeR. Channer, M.A., Ph.D
Vice-President, Community Relations, Kinross Gold
Dominic is currently Vice-President Community Relations at Kinross Gold Corporation, with responsibility for relationships with local stakeholders across Kinross mines and projects. Prior to this role, held since January 2016, Dominic had spent all of his professional career in South America. He has been with Kinross since 2008, based in Ecuador until late 2015, where he was at different times Vice-President Ecuador, Vice-President External Affairs, and Vice-President External Affairs for the Americas Region. He arrived in Ecuador in late 2006 to take up the role of President Aurelian Ecuador S.A., a subsidiary of Aurelian Resources which had discovered a large gold deposit, subsequently acquired by Kinross. From 1994 until 2006 Dominic lived in Venezuela and worked with Guaniamo Mining Company, a private diamond exploration group. Following receipt of his Ph.D. in Geology at the University of Toronto in 1994, Dominic started work as an exploration geologist in the south of Venezuela. Over following years he became the Vice-President Exploration, responsible for the activities of this small exploration company.

Fred Delabbio
Director, Strategy Focused Innovation Pty Ltd
Fred is a professional engineer with more than 30 years of global mining experience. Since 2015, Fred has been Director of Strategy Focused Innovation (SFI) Pty Ltd., a consulting firm providing technical expertise, leadership, and strategy development assistance to the global mining and hydro electric industries. Before SFI, Fred was responsible for Global Underground Innovation at Rio Tinto as a General Manager where he led the establishment of a large step change program while also providing operation technical support. He is a strong leader with broad international mining experience who has successfully managed large multidisciplinary global teams developing and implementing safe innovative solutions.
He is recognized as a leader in operation improvement, application of automation, and development and deployment of new technologies from other industries to the natural resources industry worldwide. He has worked with over 50 mining operations and mine construction studies globally with companies such as: Rio Tinto, Inco, Vale, Oz Minerals, Debswana Diamonds, Snowy Hydro, Glencore, ERG, Newcrest, Agnico Eagle, Goldcorp, Barrick, Falconbridge, Placer Dome, and Iron Ore of Canada. His experience also includes technical advisory roles as part of Merger and Acquisitions with companies such as Rio Tinto, Advent, and JP Morgan.
He holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Queensland (Australia) focused on alternative rock excavation technologies, and a Bachelor of Science from Queen’s University (Canada). He actively supports the mining industry through previously as an Adjunct Professor at Laurentian University along with various technical advisory and Board roles with mining research organizations that include: CEMI, WRBA, DMRC, MIRARCO, and CAMIRO. He is the author or co-author of over 20 technical publications and a co-inventor of 9 patents.

David Harquail
President & CEO, Director, Franco-Nevada
David Harquail led the successful initial public offering and listing of Franco-Nevada onto the Toronto Stock Exchange in late 2007. He previously held senior executive roles at Newmont Mining Corporation and prior to that was a senior executive of the original Franco-Nevada group of companies from 1987. Mr. Harquail has served on many senior mining boards, industry associations and not-for-profit committees. He holds a degree in geological engineering from the University of Toronto and an MBA from McGill University.

Greg Huffman
Senior Vice President, Capital Markets
Greg has been a Strategic Advisor to Magna for the past year and prior to that has a long history with the company, dating back to Magna's go-public transaction in 2022 when he was the Global Head of Mining Sales at Canaccord Genuity. Most recently, he was the CEO of Nuclear Fuels, a uranium exploration company which was acquired earlier this week. However, Greg has deep connections to Sudbury, having earned a B.Sc. in Earth Sciences (Geology) from the Harquail School of Earth Sciences at Laurentian University, where he continues to serve on the Advisory Board of the Goodman School of Mines.

Paul Parisotto
Chairman, Noront Resources
Mr. Parissoto is Chairman of Noront Resources Ltd., as well as its current Interim CEO, a position he held previously from November 2008 to June 2009.
Mr. Parisotto is also the current President and CEO of Chantrell Ventures Corporation, as well as the President of Coniston Investment Corp., a private company which provides management services to the resource sector.
From February 2009 to October 2010 he was the President and CEO of Tamaka Holdings Inc., a private company involved in the exploration and development of gold in Ontario. He was formerly the President and CEO of Arizona Star Resource Corp., a company which was acquired by Barrick Gold Corporation in 2007.
Previously he was Senior Vice-President, Corporate Finance for Marleau, Lemire Securities Inc. (January 1995 to January 1998); Vice-President and Director, Investment Banking for HSBC Securities (Canada) Inc. (March 1998 to June 1999); and Manager, Original Listings at the Toronto Stock Exchange (1985 to 1994). During his tenure at the Toronto Stock Exchange he was involved in the listing process for over 250 companies.
Mr. Parisotto was also a Director of Pinetree Capital Ltd., RX Exploration Inc. (2011-2012) and Nevada Pacific Gold Ltd., a public company acquired by US Gold Inc.
Mr. Parisotto holds a B.A. in Economics from Laurentian University (‘83). He currently resides in Oakville, Ontario.

Rachel Pineault
EVP, Governance & Corporate Affairs, NexGold Mining Corp.
Rachel Pineault is a results-focused Human Resources Leader with extensive senior management experience and proven success developing and implementing strategic HR initiatives and Aboriginal engagement to drive organizational effectiveness, on both corporate and operational levels.
Ms. Pineault has over 20 years of experience in mining with a focus in Human Resources and Aboriginal Affairs. Progressively moving into senior positions at a number of Canadian mining operations. She was instrumental in putting in place an essential HR framework, including developing and implementing policies and procedures to optimize the participation of Aboriginal communities. She held accountability for full workforce ramp-up and also developed a sustainable business model to bring long-term benefits to five Aboriginal communities which incorporated training and educational initiatives.
Over the course of her career, Ms. Pineault has held prime responsibility for Aboriginal engagement strategy. A recognized industry expert in this area, she has successfully negotiated and implemented Impact Benefits Agreements with multiple First Nations groups as well as the first mining agreement with the Metis Nation of Ontario. Each Agreement reached has been fundamental to establishing and validating the respective operation’s social license to operate. Once in place, Ms. Pineault effectively managed each relationship to ensure that both party’s interests were respected, and that the benefits committed to communities were realized and maximized.
Ms. Pineault was recently appointed to the CHRO Advisory Council of the Human Resources Professional Association, as well sits as a Board Member of the International Mining Advisory Board – Goodman School of Mining. Ms. Pineault sat on the Board of Northern College as a Governor as a provincial appointment and a member of the Executive Committee for six (6) years.

Dr. Nadia Mykytczuk
Executive Director of the Goodman School of Mines
Dr. Nadia Mykytczuk is an environmental microbiologist, who is regarded as one of Canada’s top experts in biomining and bioremediation. She was an associate professor at Laurentian University from 2012 to 2021, training several highly qualified personnel and leading many projects that allowed her to collaborate with major mining industry partners on remediation applications. From 2016 to 2021, she held the role of Industrial Research Chair in Biomining, Bioremediation, and Science Communication. She is currently the President & CEO of MIRARCO and is serving as the Executive Director of the Goodman School of Mines.

Dr. Parvinder Arora
Dean of Schools of Business, Laurentian University
Dr. Arora brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to Laurentian University having served more than 25 years in the field of management, in both corporate and academic sectors in Canada, Asia, and Australia. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Panjab University and his doctorate from Punjabi University in India.
Most recently, Dr. Arora has been the Dean of the Schools of Business, Creative Industries, and Information Technology at Cambrian College. There, he led several key growth initiatives, including the launch of new programs, introduction of innovative delivery methods, and embedding Indigenous content in the curriculum of business programs.
Dr. Arora was a professor at Seneca College in Toronto (2015-19) and took a one year leave to serve as Dean of the Institute of Management Technology in Dubai. Prior to that, he served as a professor and assistant Dean at the SP Jain School of Global Management, a multinational institution ranked globally as a top business school.
He is student focused and has been actively engaged in mentoring graduate students in their research work, often with corporate partners. He values interdisciplinarity and deeply appreciates the importance of partnerships to create opportunities, build community, and elevate impact.

Sandra Dorman, BScH, PhD
Full Professor, Faculty of Health
Director, Centre for Research in Occupational Safety and Health
Dr. Sandra Dorman is a Full Professor in the Faculty of Health at Laurentian University and the Director of the Centre for Research in Occupational Safety and Health (CROSH). Her expertise in is physiology/pharmacology and her research program focuses on health promotion and disease prevention in the occupational setting. Her recent work has centered on fatigue mitigation in physically demanding workforces with high incidences of fatigue-related injuries.
Currently, she is focusing on two primary themes in the occupational setting: 1) modifiable contributors to fatigue; and 2) the use of wearable technology in the occupational setting. She has a track record for successfully addressing host-identified problems and communicating information back to the host organization. She has authored over 25 papers and received over $5 million in research funding, including funding related to two infrastructure development projects: the Mobile Lab (M-CROSH); and the Workplace Simulator (W-SIM).

Tracy MacLeod
Chief Advancement Officer
A proud alumna of Laurentian University, Tracy MacLeod is a highly motivated, results-oriented Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE), with 20 years of experience in advancement portfolios at three Ontario universities.
Since 2004, MacLeod has been serving as Director of Development and Campaign Director at Laurentian University, where she successfully led staff and volunteers to raise over $65 million through The Next 50 Campaign, the largest fundraising campaign in the history of Northern Ontario. Most recently, she has been Acting Chief Advancement Officer since the incumbent Tamás (Tom) Zsolnay moved to the University of Victoria after 11 years of distinguished service leading Advancement at Laurentian University.
Ms. MacLeod worked in Advancement at Laurentian University from 1994 to 1997, at Queen’s University from 1997 to 1998, and at Nipissing University from 1998 to 2004, culminating in the role of Manager of Alumni Relations and Development at Nipissing University. In 2013, she completed the Senior University Administrators Course from the Centre for Higher Education Research and Development.
In 2011, Ms. MacLeod was one of the recipients of Sudbury’s Top 40 Under 40 Awards. She is currently serving as President of the Northeastern Ontario Fundraising Professionals Association. In 2006, she was the recipient of the Outstanding Volunteer Award from the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education. She served as Treasurer and Vice-President of the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education – Ontario, as director of the board of the Centre communautaire de Lavigne Community Centre and as an active member of the Rotary Club of Sudbury Sunrisers.
The appointment of Ms. MacLeod was unanimously recommended after an extensive recruitment process by a 13-member search committee composed of past Board Chairs, members of the University’s Board of Governors and Executive Team, academic and non-academic colleagues, representatives from the LUAA and student associations, and direct reports in Advancement.

Dominic Beaudry
Associate Vice-President, Academic and Indigenous Programs, Laurentian University
Dominic Beaudry is currently the Associate Vice-President of Academic and Indigenous Programs at Laurentian University. His work with the Office of Academic and Indigenous Programs currently includes advocating, expanding and revitalizing Indigenous Programs while taking an interdisciplinary approach for delivery. He supports the equity, diversity and inclusion planning the school has been working to improve. His previous work experiences also include Education Officer with the Student Achievement Division at the Ministry of Education, Teacher/ Consultant with the Sudbury Catholic District School Board and Education Director with the Wikwemikong Board of Education.
Dominic is quite engaged in community and committee work. He is currently a member of the Northeast Indigenous Advisory Committee at Science North, Program Advisory Committee Member at Cambrian College, Indigenous Cultural Integrity Advisory Committee Member at Tourism Ontario, and the OCAV Degree Level Expectations Working Group member at Council of Ontario Universities.

Over the years his career has included teaching, planning and administration work.

Eric R. Gauthier
Research, Director, School of Biological, Chemical and Forensic Sciences
Dr. Gauthier received his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières in 1988 and his Ph.D. degree from the Université Laval in 1993. He has been a professor at Laurentian University since 1994. Currently, he is the Director of the School of Biological, Chemical & Forensic Sciences.
Dr. Gauthier’s research is focused on the molecular and cellular events involved in the initiation, execution and regulation of cell death in mammalian cells. Dr. Gauthier and his team focus on two main facets of this problem: 1) a fundamental aspect, where we investigate the intracellular signals triggered by the amino acid L-glutamine, and which lead to cell survival. This research has recently found immediate application to medicine since glutamine is an important amino acid for the survival of several types of cancers. 2) a more applied focus, where the impact of the modulation of cell death on the behaviour of cells of biotechnological interest is investigated.

Brent Lievers
Director, Bharti School of Engineering & Computation - Associate Professor, Bharti School of Engineering & Computation
Dr Lievers obtained his PhD in mechanical engineering in 2009 from Queen's University. He was hired by Laurentian University in August 2012 for a teaching-only Master Lecturer position (or as it was called at the time a Permanent Sessional Lecturer). After two years, he was able to switch to a tenure-track faculty position and now holds the rank of Associate Professor.
When he is not writing about himself in the third-person, Dr. Lievers enjoys the outdoors, amassing stringed instruments, as well as creating and consuming baked goods.

Shastri Ramnath

Shastri Ramnath
Co-Founder, Executive Chair, Orix Geosciences Inc.
Ms. Shastri Ramnath is a Professional Geoscientist with over 19 years of global experience within the exploration and mining industry. She started her career at Falconbridge in Winnipeg in 1999 and then moved to Sudbury to join FNX Mining in 2002. She was a key member of the exploration and resource group at FNX and part of the team that discovered the Victoria Deposit.
In 2010, Shastri joined Bridgeport Ventures Inc. as President and CEO where she raised over 17 million in the capital markets before merging the company with Premier Royalty. In 2012 she co-founded and co-owns Orix Geoscience Inc., a consulting firm that partners with exploration and mining companies to provide front-end geological support. The success of Orix in its inaugural 3 years resulted in Shastri being nominated for the RBC Canadian Woman Entrepreneur of the Year for Canada and was one of 3 finalists for the Momentum Award.
More recently, Shastri co-founded Exiro Minerals, a junior exploration company focused on project generation that combines technology with traditional exploration methodologies. Shastri received a B.Sc. in Geology from the University of Manitoba, a M.Sc. in Exploration Geology from Rhodes University (South Africa), and an Executive MBA from Athabasca University.
Fred Stanford

Fred Stanford
President & CEO, Director, Torex Mining
Mr. Stanford is a highly qualified mining executive with 28+ years experience in the mining industry. Mr. Stanford started his career at Inco Limited in 1981 as a software designer and then moved into operations management as an underground mine foreman. He progressed through increasingly senior roles in mines operations, processing plant operations, engineering, EHS, human resources, and production services operations. In 2006 he was appointed to the role of President of Vale Inco’s Ontario Operations, a position he held until June of 2009. There are many milestones in a 28 year career, two that stand out for Mr. Stanford are an 80% reduction in injuries while he was Manager of EHS in the Manitoba Operations, and, while he was President, a production record in Ontario that was 15% above the previous record.
Mr. Stanford graduated in Industrial Engineering from the Technical University of Nova Scotia. He served on the Board of Laurentian University, where he currently acts as Executive in Residence, and is a member of the Board of Cambrian College and of the Northern Centre for Advanced Technology (NORCAT), a non profit commercial incubator.

For several years, Mr. Horst has been involved in the financing and managing of mining and geophysical companies. He has 35 years of mining industry experience as the Chief Executive Officer, Investment Banker, Corporate Banker and Geologist, including 13 years as the Chief Executive Officer of both public and private companies involved in mining production, … development and exploration in Europe, South America, Canada, Brazil, Indonesia and Chile. He served as the Chief Executive Officer at Orvana Minerals Corp. from March 2010 to December 5, 2011. He served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Royal Nickel Corporation from February 2007 to October 2009. Mr. Horst served as the Head of Mining Group at Nesbitt Thomson. He served as a Co-Head of Mining Group at Richardson Greenshields. He was a Mining Corporate Banker with Bank of Montreal. He served as a Consultant with Geographe International from January 1999 to May 2000. He served as Chief Executive Officer of Scintrex Limited from May 2000 to June 2004 and also served as its President. He served as the Chief Executive Officer at PICorp Capital Ltd. since April 8, 2004 and IDS Intelligent Detection Systems Inc. from June 2000 to March 2001. He served as Chief Executive Officer of Aeroquest Ltd. He served as Secretary of Aeroquest International Ltd. from February 22, 2005 to October 3, 2005 and also served as its President and Chief Executive Officer from April 8, 2004 to October 3, 2005. He began his career as a Geologist with Inco Limited Inc. Mr. Horst served as the Chief Executive Officer and President of International Nickel Ventures Corp., (now INV Metals Inc.) until February 5, 2007. He served as President of Aurora Platinum Corporation. He served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of LaCoste & Romberg-Scintrex, Inc. from April 2001 to June 2004. He served as Vice President of Business Development at FNX Mining Company, Inc. from October 3, 2005 to February 2, 2007. He was Investment/corporate Banker at Nesbitt Thomson and Richardson Greenshields. He served as the Chairman of Virgin Metals Inc. He has been a Director at Wallbridge Mining Co. Ltd. since November 23, 2009 and Victory Nickel, Inc. since December 08, 2009. He served as a Director of Northern Superior Resources Inc. from August 2008 to March 1, 2010. He served as an Additional Director of Orvana Minerals Corp. from March 2010 to December 05, 2011. Paul Rollinson

Paul Rollinson was appointed Chief Executive Officer on August 1, 2012. He joined Kinross as Executive Vice-President, New Investments, in September 2008. In September 2009, he was appointed Executive Vice-President, Corporate Development. Paul joined Kinross after a long career in investment banking, most recently as the Deputy Head of Investment Banking at Scotia Capital. During his time with Scotia, he was responsible for the mining, power/utilities, forestry and industrial sectors. He also served as Managing Director/Head of Americas for the mining group within Deutsche Bank AG, and before that, was a senior member of the mining team at BMO Nesbitt Burns. Paul has an Honours BSc in Geology from Laurentian University and an M. Eng. in Mining from McGill University.

Catharine Farrow

Catharine Farrow
CEO, Director and Co-Founder of TMAC Resources Inc.
Catharine is a professional geoscientist with more than 25 years of mining industry experience. Since November 2012 she has been CEO, Director and Co-Founder of TMAC Resources Inc., a public exploration, development and mining company based in Toronto and Cambridge Bay, Nunavut. TMAC was taken public in July 2015 and is currently focused on achieving production at the Hope Bay – Doris Mine in early 2017. Before TMAC, Catharine was most recently COO of KGHM International (formerly Quadra FNX Mining Ltd.). Previously at Quadra FNX and FNX Mining Company Inc. she held multiple senior executive roles ranging from Exploration, Corporate Development, Technical Services and Project Evaluation. Before FNX, Catharine was with both Inco Ltd. and the Ontario Geological Survey. She currently serves as a Director of Franco-Nevada Corporation and is an Adjunct Professor at Laurentian University. She also currently serves on the Ontario Government’s ‘Women in Business’ Initiative Steering Committee and the Footprints Technology Transfer Committee for the Canadian Mining Innovation Council. Catharine obtained her BSc (Hons) from Mount Allison University, her MSc from Acadia University and her PhD from Carleton University.
Robert Friedland

Robert Friedland
Executive Chairman and Founder, Ivanhoe Mines
Robert Martin Friedland (August 18, 1950) is an American-Canadian billionaire financier in the mining industry. Since the early 1980s, he has specialized in securing funding for the exploration and development of mineral and energy resources and technology ventures. He is the founder and chairman of his private, family-owned firm, Ivanhoe Capital Corporation, which is active in capital markets, focused on emerging markets. He is the founder and co-chairman of Ivanhoe Mines – a Canadian public company listed on the Toronto and OTCQX exchanges.
