Meet the experts that form the Goodman School of Mines Advisory Board
The International Advisory Board to the Executive Director of the Goodman School of Mines provides high-level strategic advice relating to and ensuring the long-term goals and success of the School. The Advisory Board and its members provide insights, ideas and resources to assist the School in developing strategic initiatives to advance the well-being of society through excellence in teaching, research and service, to exploit the rapidly changing needs of the mining industry, and to foster closer ties between the School and its constituents.
The International Advisory Board consists of 8-15 members who are representative of external stakeholders. External members are appointed to a renewable 3-year term by the Executive Director of the Goodman School of Mines after consultation with the Executive Director of Advancement. A permanent seat is provided for an appointee by the Goodman family. The Executive Director of the Goodman School of Mines, the directors of schools and departments delivering programs related to mining education (engineering, earth sciences, management, and indigenous programs) and the Executive Director of University Advancement are ex-officio members of the advisory board.
Role of the Advisory Board:
- Provide advice regarding new initiatives and long-range goals, to more effectively respond to the emerging needs of the mining industry.
- Review currency of programming and research agendas, providing perspective on expectations of graduates and emerging mining challenges, and offer feedback on existing programs and research.
- Advocate for the School (within industry, relevant government agencies, professional societies, etc.), actively opening new avenues of community engagement, collaboration, research and knowledge dissemination.
- Promote the School publicly, through sharing an understanding of the School and its programs and celebrating its achievements.
- Serve as a communications bridge and “think tank” to connect the School with other sectors of the community and animate a dynamic exchange of ideas so that the School may best contribute to the changing needs of the mining industry and those working in it.
- Develop good relations between the School and the larger mining community and relate the priorities and concerns of that community to the School.
- Aid the School in its efforts to secure the resources required to be globally competitive in attracting and retaining excellent faculty, staff and students.
- Individually partner with the School as guest lecturers, seminar participants, career advisors, etc.
- Use personal contacts to enable faculty and students to gain workplace exposure, with a particular focus on emerging trends and practices.
- Annually review and provide advice to the Executive Director with regard to the expenditure of undesignated private sector gifts and endowment disbursements.
Advisory Board Members

Greg Huffman
Managing Director | Global Head – Mining Sales, Canaccord Genuity
Gregory Huffman joined Canaccord Genuity in February 2016 as Global Head of Mining Sales, following six years at Scotiabank in 2010 in a variety of roles within the mining group. In addition to authoring the highly-regarded “High Grade Mining Minute” daily sales note, Greg has been consistently recognized as one of the “Top Sales Coverage of Resource Portfolio Managers” by Brendan Wood International. Greg spent almost 3 years as a buy-side global materials analyst for a U.S. multi-strategy hedge fund and 3.5 years as a sell-side mining research analyst with two independent Canadian brokerage firms, covering base and precious metal, as well as uranium companies. A geologist by training, Greg graduated from Laurentian University in Sudbury with a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Earth Sciences and worked as a geologist in Sudbury for Falconbridge and in Ontario and Quebec for a number of junior exploration companies including Lakeshore Gold, Aurora Platinum, Canadian Royalties, Golden Valley Mines, etc. He also sits on the Advisory Board for the Goodman School of Mines at Laurentian University.

Paul Parisotto
Chairman, Noront Resources
Mr. Parissoto is Chairman of Noront Resources Ltd., as well as its current Interim CEO, a position he held previously from November 2008 to June 2009.
Mr. Parisotto is also the current President and CEO of Chantrell Ventures Corporation, as well as the President of Coniston Investment Corp., a private company which provides management services to the resource sector.
From February 2009 to October 2010 he was the President and CEO of Tamaka Holdings Inc., a private company involved in the exploration and development of gold in Ontario. He was formerly the President and CEO of Arizona Star Resource Corp., a company which was acquired by Barrick Gold Corporation in 2007.
Previously he was Senior Vice-President, Corporate Finance for Marleau, Lemire Securities Inc. (January 1995 to January 1998); Vice-President and Director, Investment Banking for HSBC Securities (Canada) Inc. (March 1998 to June 1999); and Manager, Original Listings at the Toronto Stock Exchange (1985 to 1994). During his tenure at the Toronto Stock Exchange he was involved in the listing process for over 250 companies.
Mr. Parisotto was also a Director of Pinetree Capital Ltd., RX Exploration Inc. (2011-2012) and Nevada Pacific Gold Ltd., a public company acquired by US Gold Inc.
Mr. Parisotto holds a B.A. in Economics from Laurentian University (‘83). He currently resides in Oakville, Ontario.

Rachel Pineault
EVP, Governance & Corporate Affairs, NexGold Mining Corp.
Rachel Pineault is a results-focused Human Resources Leader with extensive senior management experience and proven success developing and implementing strategic HR initiatives and Aboriginal engagement to drive organizational effectiveness, on both corporate and operational levels.
Ms. Pineault has over 20 years of experience in mining with a focus in Human Resources and Aboriginal Affairs. Progressively moving into senior positions at a number of Canadian mining operations. She was instrumental in putting in place an essential HR framework, including developing and implementing policies and procedures to optimize the participation of Aboriginal communities. She held accountability for full workforce ramp-up and also developed a sustainable business model to bring long-term benefits to five Aboriginal communities which incorporated training and educational initiatives.
Over the course of her career, Ms. Pineault has held prime responsibility for Aboriginal engagement strategy. A recognized industry expert in this area, she has successfully negotiated and implemented Impact Benefits Agreements with multiple First Nations groups as well as the first mining agreement with the Metis Nation of Ontario. Each Agreement reached has been fundamental to establishing and validating the respective operation’s social license to operate. Once in place, Ms. Pineault effectively managed each relationship to ensure that both party’s interests were respected, and that the benefits committed to communities were realized and maximized.
Ms. Pineault was recently appointed to the CHRO Advisory Council of the Human Resources Professional Association, as well sits as a Board Member of the International Mining Advisory Board – Goodman School of Mining. Ms. Pineault sat on the Board of Northern College as a Governor as a provincial appointment and a member of the Executive Committee for six (6) years.

Dr. Nadia Mykytczuk
Executive Director of the Goodman School of Mines
Dr. Nadia Mykytczuk is an environmental microbiologist, who is regarded as one of Canada’s top experts in biomining and bioremediation. She was an associate professor at Laurentian University from 2012 to 2021, training several highly qualified personnel and leading many projects that allowed her to collaborate with major mining industry partners on remediation applications. From 2016 to 2021, she held the role of Industrial Research Chair in Biomining, Bioremediation, and Science Communication. She is currently the President & CEO of MIRARCO and is serving as the Executive Director of the Goodman School of Mines.

Dr. Michel Delorme
Dean of Management, Laurentian University
Dr. Michel Delorme became in July 2019 the new Dean, Faculty of Management at Laurentian University (Sudbury, Canada). Delorme comes to Laurentian University from Simmons University (Boston, USA) where he was Director of the School of Business and from Burgundy School of Business in Dijon (France) where he was a full professor in Human Resource Management and Organizational Behavior, and the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs. Prior to that, he served as the Vice Dean for Knowledge Development and Research at Rennes School of Business in Rennes (France).
Dr. Delorme comes to Laurentian University with many years of experience in international leadership positions and expertise in accreditation issues, as well as management of faculty, research, and doctoral programs. Delorme has forged international partnerships with excellent academic institutions around the world.
Delorme’s research focuses on understanding, within the context of Internationalization, the changing roles and responsibilities of top executives and managers in modern organizations and the competencies required to be successful leaders.
Dr. Delorme holds a Doctorate degree in Management Sciences from University of Strasbourg (France) and a MBA degree from University of Sherbrooke (Canada).

Sandra Dorman, BScH, PhD
Full Professor, Faculty of Health
Director, Centre for Research in Occupational Safety and Health
Dr. Sandra Dorman is a Full Professor in the Faculty of Health at Laurentian University and the Director of the Centre for Research in Occupational Safety and Health (CROSH). Her expertise in is physiology/pharmacology and her research program focuses on health promotion and disease prevention in the occupational setting. Her recent work has centered on fatigue mitigation in physically demanding workforces with high incidences of fatigue-related injuries.
Currently, she is focusing on two primary themes in the occupational setting: 1) modifiable contributors to fatigue; and 2) the use of wearable technology in the occupational setting. She has a track record for successfully addressing host-identified problems and communicating information back to the host organization. She has authored over 25 papers and received over $5 million in research funding, including funding related to two infrastructure development projects: the Mobile Lab (M-CROSH); and the Workplace Simulator (W-SIM).

Tracy MacLeod
Chief Advancement Officer
A proud alumna of Laurentian University, Tracy MacLeod is a highly motivated, results-oriented Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE), with 20 years of experience in advancement portfolios at three Ontario universities.
Since 2004, MacLeod has been serving as Director of Development and Campaign Director at Laurentian University, where she successfully led staff and volunteers to raise over $65 million through The Next 50 Campaign, the largest fundraising campaign in the history of Northern Ontario. Most recently, she has been Acting Chief Advancement Officer since the incumbent Tamás (Tom) Zsolnay moved to the University of Victoria after 11 years of distinguished service leading Advancement at Laurentian University.
Ms. MacLeod worked in Advancement at Laurentian University from 1994 to 1997, at Queen’s University from 1997 to 1998, and at Nipissing University from 1998 to 2004, culminating in the role of Manager of Alumni Relations and Development at Nipissing University. In 2013, she completed the Senior University Administrators Course from the Centre for Higher Education Research and Development.
In 2011, Ms. MacLeod was one of the recipients of Sudbury’s Top 40 Under 40 Awards. She is currently serving as President of the Northeastern Ontario Fundraising Professionals Association. In 2006, she was the recipient of the Outstanding Volunteer Award from the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education. She served as Treasurer and Vice-President of the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education – Ontario, as director of the board of the Centre communautaire de Lavigne Community Centre and as an active member of the Rotary Club of Sudbury Sunrisers.
The appointment of Ms. MacLeod was unanimously recommended after an extensive recruitment process by a 13-member search committee composed of past Board Chairs, members of the University’s Board of Governors and Executive Team, academic and non-academic colleagues, representatives from the LUAA and student associations, and direct reports in Advancement.

Dominic Beaudry
Associate Vice-President, Academic and Indigenous Programs, Laurentian University
Dominic Beaudry is currently the Associate Vice-President of Academic and Indigenous Programs at Laurentian University. His work with the Office of Academic and Indigenous Programs currently includes advocating, expanding and revitalizing Indigenous Programs while taking an interdisciplinary approach for delivery. He supports the equity, diversity and inclusion planning the school has been working to improve. His previous work experiences also include Education Officer with the Student Achievement Division at the Ministry of Education, Teacher/ Consultant with the Sudbury Catholic District School Board and Education Director with the Wikwemikong Board of Education.
Dominic is quite engaged in community and committee work. He is currently a member of the Northeast Indigenous Advisory Committee at Science North, Program Advisory Committee Member at Cambrian College, Indigenous Cultural Integrity Advisory Committee Member at Tourism Ontario, and the OCAV Degree Level Expectations Working Group member at Council of Ontario Universities.
Dominic holds a master of arts degree in history from the University of Toronto, a bachelor of education degree from Queen’s University, and a bachelor of arts joint major degree in history and Indigenous studies from Trent University. Over the years his career has included teaching, planning and administration work.

Eric R. Gauthier
Research, Director, School of Biological, Chemical and Forensic Sciences
Dr. Gauthier received his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières in 1988 and his Ph.D. degree from the Université Laval in 1993. He has been a professor at Laurentian University since 1994. Currently, he is the Director of the School of Biological, Chemical & Forensic Sciences.
Dr. Gauthier’s research is focused on the molecular and cellular events involved in the initiation, execution and regulation of cell death in mammalian cells. Dr. Gauthier and his team focus on two main facets of this problem: 1) a fundamental aspect, where we investigate the intracellular signals triggered by the amino acid L-glutamine, and which lead to cell survival. This research has recently found immediate application to medicine since glutamine is an important amino acid for the survival of several types of cancers. 2) a more applied focus, where the impact of the modulation of cell death on the behaviour of cells of biotechnological interest is investigated.

Ramesh Subramanian
Director/Associate Professor, Bharti School of Engineering
Ramesh Subramanian obtained his PhD in Chemical Engineering from University of New Brunswick in 1994. He joined the School of Engineering at Laurentian University in January 2002 as an Assistant Professor in Chemical Engineering after completing postdoctoral fellowships in Food Engineering at University of Wisconsin-Madison and in Chemical Engineering at McMaster University. He was instrumental in the development of Chemical Engineering curriculum at Laurentian University in 2002-2003, and re-accreditation of the program in 2011 and 2014. Since July 2010, Dr. Subramanian is the Director of the Bharti School of Engineering at Laurentian University. In addition, he is also the Undergraduate Program Coordinator of Chemical Engineering and Graduate Program Coordinator of Natural Resources Engineering. Dr. Subramanian is a Registered Professional Engineer in the province of Ontario and an active member of Professional Engineers Ontario’s Academic Requirements Committee. He is actively involved with the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board/Engineers Canada, having served as Vice Chair and Program Visitor for Chemical Engineering during accreditation visits.

Pedro Jugo
Director, Harquail School of Earth Sciences
Full Professor specialized in igneous petrology. At Laurentian University since 2006 training students and conducting experimental and field-based research aimed at understanding the fundamental geochemical processes involved in element transfer from the Earth’s mantle to the crust and the formation of mineral deposits.
B.Eng. (Univ. Central de Venezuela, 1993); MSc (Univ. of Maryland, 1997); PhD (Univ. of Alberta, 2003); Postdoctoral Fellow at Goethe Univ. (2004-2006). Worked in the Venezuelan Guiana Shield (field geologist; ground and airborne geophysics) before pursuing graduate studies.

Shastri Ramnath

Shastri Ramnath
Co-Founder, Executive Chair, Orix Geosciences Inc.Ms. Shastri Ramnath is a Professional Geoscientist with over 19 years of global experience within the exploration and mining industry. She started her career at Falconbridge in Winnipeg in 1999 and then moved to Sudbury to join FNX Mining in 2002. She was a key member of the exploration and resource group at FNX and part of the team that discovered the Victoria Deposit.
In 2010, Shastri joined Bridgeport Ventures Inc. as President and CEO where she raised over 17 million in the capital markets before merging the company with Premier Royalty. In 2012 she co-founded and co-owns Orix Geoscience Inc., a consulting firm that partners with exploration and mining companies to provide front-end geological support. The success of Orix in its inaugural 3 years resulted in Shastri being nominated for the RBC Canadian Woman Entrepreneur of the Year for Canada and was one of 3 finalists for the Momentum Award.
More recently, Shastri co-founded Exiro Minerals, a junior exploration company focused on project generation that combines technology with traditional exploration methodologies. Shastri received a B.Sc. in Geology from the University of Manitoba, a M.Sc. in Exploration Geology from Rhodes University (South Africa), and an Executive MBA from Athabasca University.
Fred Stanford

Fred Stanford
President & CEO, Director, Torex MiningMr. Stanford is a highly qualified mining executive with 28+ years experience in the mining industry. Mr. Stanford started his career at Inco Limited in 1981 as a software designer and then moved into operations management as an underground mine foreman. He progressed through increasingly senior roles in mines operations, processing plant operations, engineering, EHS, human resources, and production services operations. In 2006 he was appointed to the role of President of Vale Inco’s Ontario Operations, a position he held until June of 2009. There are many milestones in a 28 year career, two that stand out for Mr. Stanford are an 80% reduction in injuries while he was Manager of EHS in the Manitoba Operations, and, while he was President, a production record in Ontario that was 15% above the previous record.
Mr. Stanford graduated in Industrial Engineering from the Technical University of Nova Scotia. He served on the Board of Laurentian University, where he currently acts as Executive in Residence, and is a member of the Board of Cambrian College and of the Northern Centre for Advanced Technology (NORCAT), a non profit commercial incubator.

He has 35 years of mining industry experience as the Chief Executive Officer, Investment Banker, Corporate Banker and Geologist, including 13 years as the Chief Executive Officer of both public and private companies involved in mining production, … development and exploration in Europe, South America, Canada, Brazil, Indonesia and Chile. He served as the Chief Executive Officer at Orvana Minerals Corp. from March 2010 to December 5, 2011. He served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Royal Nickel Corporation from February 2007 to October 2009. Mr. Horst served as the Head of Mining Group at Nesbitt Thomson. He served as a Co-Head of Mining Group at Richardson Greenshields. He was a Mining Corporate Banker with Bank of Montreal. He served as a Consultant with Geographe International from January 1999 to May 2000. He served as Chief Executive Officer of Scintrex Limited from May 2000 to June 2004 and also served as its President. He served as the Chief Executive Officer at PICorp Capital Ltd. since April 8, 2004 and IDS Intelligent Detection Systems Inc. from June 2000 to March 2001. He served as Chief Executive Officer of Aeroquest Ltd. Paul Rollinson

Paul Rollinson
President and CEO, Kinross GoldPaul Rollinson was appointed Chief Executive Officer on August 1, 2012. He joined Kinross as Executive Vice-President, New Investments, in September 2008. In September 2009, he was appointed Executive Vice-President, Corporate Development. Paul joined Kinross after a long career in investment banking, most recently as the Deputy Head of Investment Banking at Scotia Capital. During his time with Scotia, he was responsible for the mining, power/utilities, forestry and industrial sectors. He also served as Managing Director/Head of Americas for the mining group within Deutsche Bank AG, and before that, was a senior member of the mining team at BMO Nesbitt Burns. Paul has an Honours BSc in Geology from Laurentian University and an M. Eng. in Mining from McGill University.

Catharine Farrow

Catharine Farrow
CEO, Director and Co-Founder of TMAC Resources Inc.Catharine is a professional geoscientist with more than 25 years of mining industry experience. Since November 2012 she has been CEO, Director and Co-Founder of TMAC Resources Inc., a public exploration, development and mining company based in Toronto and Cambridge Bay, Nunavut. TMAC was taken public in July 2015 and is currently focused on achieving production at the Hope Bay – Doris Mine in early 2017. Before TMAC, Catharine was most recently COO of KGHM International (formerly Quadra FNX Mining Ltd.). Previously at Quadra FNX and FNX Mining Company Inc. she held multiple senior executive roles ranging from Exploration, Corporate Development, Technical Services and Project Evaluation. Before FNX, Catharine was with both Inco Ltd. and the Ontario Geological Survey. She currently serves as a Director of Franco-Nevada Corporation and is an Adjunct Professor at Laurentian University. She also currently serves on the Ontario Government’s ‘Women in Business’ Initiative Steering Committee and the Footprints Technology Transfer Committee for the Canadian Mining Innovation Council. Catharine obtained her BSc (Hons) from Mount Allison University, her MSc from Acadia University and her PhD from Carleton University.
Robert Friedland

Executive Chairman and Founder, Ivanhoe MinesRobert Martin Friedland (August 18, 1950) is an American-Canadian billionaire financier in the mining industry. Since the early 1980s, he has specialized in securing funding for the exploration and development of mineral and energy resources and technology ventures. He is the founder and chairman of his private, family-owned firm, Ivanhoe Capital Corporation, which is active in capital markets, focused on emerging markets. He is the founder and co-chairman of Ivanhoe Mines – a Canadian public company listed on the Toronto and OTCQX exchanges.
