David Hung is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Education and Health at Laurentian University. He holds a PhD in Mathematics Education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) at the University of Toronto and obtained his Ontario Teaching Certificate in 2008 after a B.Éd. from the University of Ottawa. He is a certified teacher in Ontario and British Columbia.
With over two decades of experience in the field of education, Dr. Hung has taught across primary, junior, intermediate, and senior grades in Ontario public schools and internationally, delivering instruction in both English and French. His research centers on exemplary teaching practices, particularly through the lens of socio-constructivism. He examines how educators foster collaborative learning, facilitate knowledge building, design effective and engaging lessons, sustain student engagement, and create inclusive, equitable and supportive classroom learning environments. A key focus of his work is the strategic use of discourse and talk moves to enhance mathematics instruction.
Dr. Hung’s research directly informs his teaching practice, where he delivers undergraduate and pre-service teacher education courses in mathematics and pedagogy. As a committed educator and researcher, he remains dedicated to enhancing teaching efficacy, promoting innovative practices in mathematics education, and inspiring excellence in the field of education.
