Full-time Term Appointment until March 26, 2027 The Office of Student Success is seeking to fill two (2) vacancies.  The current schedule is Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. (summer hours), or Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (winter hours).  Upon four weeks’ notice, the work week and/or hours of work may be changed.  (This may include evening and/or weekend shifts.)   

Responsibilities

Vacancy Status: Existing position

Funded through the Ontario Postsecondary Access and Inclusion Program (OPAIP) and reporting to the Manager, Office of Student Success, the Student Communications and Engagement Coordinator(s) will assist Laurentian University with the engagement of current and incoming students, to promote events, activities and resources available to these students, and encourage the progression of students’ studies towards completion.  

The Student Communications and Engagement Coordinator(s) will focus on conversion, transition, and retention efforts to deliver projects related to the Ontario Postsecondary Access and Inclusion Program (OPAIP), to support the development of:  

  • Early engagement of First Generation and racialized Postsecondary Education (PSE) students
  • Engagement of Adult Learners & potential degree completers
  • Engagement of Indigenous PSE Learners 

The successful candidate will: 

  • Enhance existing pre- and post-orientation programs to provide support and services to students as they prepare for September, January, and May starts to PSE
  • Improve conversion rate by facilitating website edits and improvements to Transition and Orientation pages
  • Increase the number of potential completers
  • Increase term over term retention by decreasing the number of potential early leavers 
  • Decrease the number of academic withdrawals through provision of academic resources and supports
  • Increase engagement with current and incoming students at Laurentian University to increase conversion and retention of incoming students  

Events 

  • Plan, coordinate and execute activities and events relating to student access and transition to postsecondary education and Laurentian University;
  • Researches, plans, coordinates and implements special events for Laurentian student transition and retention 

Outreach and Communication 

  • Maintain and update relevant web and portal content 
  • Develop a strategy and plan to engage students throughout their first and upper years of study to assist in retention efforts
  • Collaborate with student services units, faculty, and community partners to ensure consistent and effective messaging.
  • Collaborate with the Student Transitions Coordinator to track and manage communications to incoming students and offer holders, encouraging students' successful transition to campus (or virtual campus)
  • Assist in the organization and implementation of phone, email and digital transition and retention campaigns 

Data collection and management 

  • Collect, analyze, and report on engagement metrics and feedback to inform improvements and meet OPAIP reporting requirements.
  • Collaborate with offices across campus to coordinate the gathering of data to support decisions relating to transitions programming and communications 

Other 

  • Support administration of campus programming to support students facing non-financial barriers to success and encourage retention to degree completion of these students
  • Abide by the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations, as well as the University’s Health and Safety Policies; 
  • Performs other duties directly related to this position as assigned. 

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree, or commensurate experience;
  • One (1) to three (3) years related experience in project management, event coordination, ideally in an education based organization;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential;
  • Exceptional organizational skills;
  • Comfortable in facilitating presentations and public speaking;
  • Experience working with underrepresented or equity-deserving student populations is an asset; 
  • Ability to work fluently (verbal and written) in both official languages, French and English, is required.

The official University hours of operation shall be from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, during, and including, the months from September to April, and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m Monday through Friday during and including May to August., amounting to thirty-three and three-quarter (33.75) hours per week.
