Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, Health and Wellness Services, the Nurse Practitioner is responsible for providing high quality patient care, focusing on health promotion and disease prevention, collaborating with healthcare teams, managing chronic conditions, advocating for patients, maintaining efficient documentation and record keeping, ensuring regulatory compliance and risk management, and contributing to sustainability and strategic growth.

Health Assessment, Diagnosis, and Therapeutic Management:

  • Perform focused and comprehensive health assessments, including complete health histories and physical evaluations, to diagnose health risks and conditions. 
  • Integrate client data and evidence-informed practice to formulate diagnoses, anticipate urgent situations, and initiate interventions. 
  • Order and conduct diagnostic investigations, communicate assessment findings and prognosis to clients, and collaborate on care options and therapeutic interventions. 
  • Prescribe pharmacotherapy based on health history and conditions, counsel clients on medication therapy, and evaluate and revise care plans.
  • Mental Health Assessments:

  • Conduct in-depth mental health assessments and diagnoses using DSM-5 for university students, implementing a range of treatment options. 
  • Provide individual and group therapy sessions, crisis intervention services, and collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure integrated care. 
  • Participate in outreach programs and workshops to promote mental health awareness and wellness on campus.
  • Health Promotion and Prevention of Illness and Injury: 

  • Lead or collaborate with healthcare teams and communities to promote health and reduce the risk of complications and injuries. 
  • Assess and analyze client and population health trends, develop strategies to address health implications, and contribute to policy development for health services. 
  • Design and implement health promotion interventions and evaluation processes to monitor effectiveness.
  •  

    Collaboration, Consultation, and Referral: 

  • Consult with and refer clients to other healthcare providers throughout the care continuum.
  • Advocate for clients regarding therapeutic interventions and healthcare access, and collaborate with the healthcare team to promote interprofessional, client-centered care. Apply advanced skills in communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution.
  • Accurate Documentation (Clinical Practice): 

  • Maintain accurate and confidential electronic health records, documenting assessments, interventions, and treatment plans in a timely manner. 
  • Adhere to federal and provincial legislation and standards related to privacy and information management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing
  • Three (3) to Five (5) years of relevant experience 
  • A Nurse Practitioner (NP) License is required, or must be actively pursuing a Nurse Practitioner (NP) License.
  • Various certifications, including: 

            ▪ Mental Health First Aid 

            ▪ Suicide Prevention 

            ▪ Standard First Aid and CPR 

            ▪ Defibrillation 

            ▪ Critical Incident Stress Management

            ▪ Risk Assessment and Threat Management

  • Clinical Skills
  •  Strong background in providing primary care services, including:

           ▪ Assessments 

           ▪ Diagnosis 

           ▪ Treatment 

           ▪ Patient education 

  • Leadership and Management 

                 o Oversee clinical operations in the absence of the Manager 

                 o Provide leadership and guidance to RNs and clerical staff

                 o Skilled in designing, implementing, and evaluating health and wellness programs

                  o Knowledge of mental health support, crisis intervention, and therapeutic management 

  • Knowledge of Health Systems
  •  Familiar with health legislation, including:

           ▪ Nursing Act, 1991 

           ▪ Regulated Health Professions Act

  •  Knowledge of regulatory privacy standards (PHIPA, FIPPA, PIPEDA) 

       o Proficient in healthcare management software and electronic medical records (EMR), such   as Telus PS Suite, and data analysis tools 

  • Technology Proficiency 
  •  Proficient in technology, including: 

           ▪ Google Suite 

           ▪ Microsoft Suite 

           ▪ Datatel

           ▪ Fusion

  •  Crisis Management 

                 o Capable of managing urgent health situations in clinical and operational settings

                 o Member of the CARE (Coordination, Assessment, Response, and Education) team 

                 o Advanced communication skills in conflict resolution and negotiation

  • Ability to work fluently (verbal and written) in both official languages, French and English, is an asset.

The official University hours of operation shall be from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, during, and including, the months from September to April, and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m Monday through Friday during and including May to August., amounting to thirty-three and three-quarter (33.75) hours per week.
