Youth in Care Bursary

Former or current youth in the care of the Children’s Aid Society who are pursuing their first postsecondary degree are eligible for a bursary of 2,000 dollars. Students must meet the following conditions:

  • Must have been in extended society care in Ontario for a minimum of one year.
  • Must apply for funding through full-time or part-time OSAP each academic year.
  • Students must self-identify as coming from care through the OSAP application process and provide the supporting documentation.
  • Students registered in Part-Time Studies (less than 18 credits) will receive a prorated amount

Priority will be given to first degree, first time applicants studying at Laurentian University (collaborative programs are excluded). The bursary is limited to 10 students per academic year. Students must apply by September 1st of each year.  Students will be selected by the number of credits registered in and the total Unmet Need as determined by OSAP. A first disbursement of the bursary will be made during the Fall term, and a second will be made in the Winter term. There is no application required for this bursary; students who meet the above criteria will be considered.

Should bursaries still be available, consideration will be given to students who apply by January 1st for the Winter term, and prorated based on the number of credits taken. The bursary is not available for the Spring terms.

Please note: All monies received during the school year (bursaries, scholarships, part-time work, etc...) could reduce your OSAP loan entitlement. This could also convert grant funding to loan funding. Any OSAP overpayment could decrease any future OSAP entitlement. Please contact financialaid@laurentian.ca if you have any questions.
