October 8, 2026 — For Michelle Zephyr, pursuing her passion for architecture has been an international journey across continents, career pivots, and motherhood. Now a fourth-year student at Laurentian University’s McEwen School of Architecture, Zephyr is sharing how donor-funded support through the Stevenson Family Scholarship has helped balance her studies, family life, and future goals.

Originally from Ecuador, Zephyr grew up in Switzerland, completing two years of architectural studies in Geneva and earning a diploma in plumbing engineering. After immigrating to Greater Sudbury, she enrolled in the Bachelor of Architecture program to build a new chapter.

"I love the way McEwen works; it's an 'I learn from you, you learn from me' hands-on environment," says Zephyr. "It has helped me grow intellectually and as a person."

As a parent balancing studio work with family responsibilities, receiving the Stevenson Family Scholarship offered vital independence and peace of mind.

"I was so happy when I received the news," Zephyr shares. "Having funds available for textbooks, design materials, or meals on campus makes a huge difference. Beyond the financial relief, it’s a real mental support. It makes you feel proud and encourages you to do your absolute best."

With plans to enter Laurentian's Master of Architecture program, Zephyr hopes her story inspires continued donor support across all faculties.

"I would encourage donors to continue supporting students," says Zephyr. "Whether a student is balancing family life or facing difficult circumstances, these awards are more than monetary, they offer encouragement and a mental boost that reminds us we are capable of succeeding."

The Stevenson Family established this Scholarship to honour the memory of Ruby & Ivan Dale and Phoebe & Wilbert Stevenson, who ensured their children understood the true value and importance of a professional University degree and its positive lifelong impact. This scholarship was also established as a tribute to Joyce & Clayton’s three daughters, Jennifer, Melissa, and Lana.
