The Physics of Medical Imaging

The course will review the mathematical and physical basis for imaging in medicine. The principles of the major imaging modalities including x-ray radiology, nuclear medicine, ultrasound and nuclear magnetic resonance will be covered and their roles in diagnosis and therapy will be discussed. Additionally, special attention will be given to computational aspects of medical imaging (digital image reconstruction, processing, display). Prerequisite: PHYS 5606 or permission of the instructor. cr 3
