Prepare for a career in exploring our planet and its rich natural history. 

Through hands-on field and lab work, co-op and experiential learning opportunities, you'll cover the foundations of Earth Sciences and develop the skills you need to make an impact, tackling matters like climate change, resource development, and advancing our knowledge of Earth.

You'll become a Geoscientist, taking courses in geology, mineralogy, petrology, and more to identify, locate, research, understand, and develop natural resources, including minerals, metals, energy sources, fertile soil, and water.

Located in Sudbury, Ontario, Laurentian University lies on a globally recognized mineral exploration hub, built on the Canadian Shield and the rim of a major meteorite impact site. You'll encounter a diverse range of rocks and minerals right here on campus!

Gain Practical Experience

Throughout your studies, you'll complete over 700 hours of hands-on experience using specialized equipment in laboratories and field schools – including international field trip opportunities! You can also gain valuable work experience with organizations in the mining industry, government agencies, and research centres nearby.

Advance Your Career

Upon graduation, you'll meet the academic requirements to become a professional geoscientist and be prepared to apply for P.Geo licensing. With a new breadth of knowledge, you'll be prepared for a variety of career paths in mineral exploration, mining, government, or consulting agencies.

Laurentian University's Earth Sciences program is a 4-year Bachelor of Science degree. Upon completion, you'll meet the academic requirements to become a professional geoscientist and earn your P.Geo. designation!
