Sylvie Larocque is an Full Professor in the School of Nursing. She received her first nursing degree from Laurentian University. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, she worked as a registered nurse at Sick Children's Hospital in Toronto where she obtained her clinical expertise in pediatrics (care of children and their families). She accepted a teaching contract at the School of Nursing, Laurentian University where she discovered her passion for teaching. She pursued her education and received a MSc (infirmière) from Montreal University and gained more pediatric clinical expertise while working at Sainte-Justine Hospital for Children. She was then offered a permanent teaching position at the School of Nursing, Laurentian University where she has been teaching now for over 30 years. She obtained her Ph.D. in 2006 from the Faculty of Nursing, University of Alberta. She teaches both in the undergraduate and graduate nursing programs for the School of Nursing, Laurentian University. She is also a faculty member for the Interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Rural and Northern Health, Laurentian University.
