Dr. Elizabeth Wenghofer is an academic and researcher specializing in physician performance, medical regulation, and program evaluation. She earned her PhD in Medical Sciences (Health Services Research) from the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Medicine (2004) and currently serves as a full professor at Laurentian University. Additionally, she holds a part-time faculty appointment in the Human Sciences Division, Northern Ontario School of Medicine University, and was the Research Director for the University of California San Diego Physician Assessment and Clinical Education (PACE) Program for over a decade. Dr. Wenghofer serves on the Medical Council of Canada’s Governance & Nominating Committee and is a member of the editorial board of the Journal for Medical Regulation. Before joining Laurentian University, she spent eleven years leading research initiatives at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
Her research leverages big data to explore factors influencing physician performance, emphasizing the interactions between practice environments, continuing professional development, and medical regulation. Collaborating with medical regulatory authorities across Canada, the Federation of State Medical Boards, and U.S.-based physician performance assessment programs, Dr. Wenghofer contributes to advancing evidence-based approaches in healthcare regulation and policy.
Dr. Wenghofer teaches and supervises graduate students in the Interdisciplinary PhD in Rural and Northern Health and Masters in Interdisciplinary Health.
