Drugs and Behaviour
Course code: PSYC-3036EL
This course examines the mechanisms of drug action and their behavioural effects. Topics include: principles of neurotransmission, principles of drug action, drug classification, a look at commonly used drugs, and disorders that are being treated with drugs (neurological disorders, obesity, mood disorders). The course will also spend time looking at the social issues of drug use and legalization, how addictions develop and can be treated and how drug addiction specifically affects Indigenous peoples. Prerequisites: PSYC-1105EL + 12 additional PSYC credits must be completed prior to taking this course. Student cannot retain credit for both PSYC-3036EL and NSCI/PSYC-3506EL. (lec 3) 3 cr.
