Legal Epistemology and Evidence Law

This course investigates issues in legal epistemology, that is, how the law "knows" what the law "knows." The course begins with an examination of epistemological skepticism, general issues in epistemology, and legal epistemology more specifically. The course then focuses on themes in the law of evidence, which may include: standards (or burdens) of proof, hearsay evidence, the role and testimony of experts, testimony evidence, and the development and role of evidence rules. (Lec/Sem 3) cr. 3.) PREREQ: JURI-1105, JURI-2106, JURI-2107 and a minimum of 18 university credits or permission of the professor.
