This course surveys how crime has been understood and addressed from antiquity to modern times. Students will examine how crime was defined by individuals, cultures, and authorities particularly in Europe and North America. They will also consider how deviance was policed, punished, and treated both in social practice and popular culture, with special attention to how concepts of criminal behaviour persist or change over time. (lec 2, tut1). 3 credits. Pre-requisite: 18 university credits
