Federal and provincial regulations covering safety and environmental aspects of mining, minerals concentration, material transportation, smelting and refining are examined with methods of implementation, monitoring and reporting. The impact of health, safety and environmental protection requirements on the selection and design of mining and surface processing operations are discussedwith particular reference to air and water quality and to control of liquid effluents, noxious dust and gas emissions, solid waste disposal, health and safety hazards in the workplace.
