Indigenous Innovation, Design, and Problem Solving

Students explore current and historical practices of Indigenous inventiveness, problem-solving, and design in Canadian contexts, including First Nations, Métis, and Inuit perspectives and experiences, as well as globally. Particular attention is paid to how Indigenous creators build upon distinct cultural traditions and Indigenous ways of knowing. Students become familiar with a range of Indigenous engagements and concerns regarding material selection, tools, manufacturing methods, environments, and applications. The course incorporates case studies of Indigenous innovation at the individual and community levels. (lec 3) 3 cr.
