Festivities and Live Music Highlight Franco-Ontarians this week

(September 21, 2026) — Vibrant energy is building across campus as Laurentian University prepares to celebrate Franco-Ontarian Flag Day with an action-packed week of cultural programming, live performances, and community gatherings.

Organised through collaborative efforts between the Office of Francophone Affairs, student associations, and local cultural partners, this year's festivities showcase the rich heritage and inclusive spirit of Laurentian's Francophone community.

Featured Cultural Events and Activities: 

Cinéfest Sudbury Movie Screening (Au revoir Pluton): 

• On Tuesday, September 22 at 4:00 PM, the Office of Francophone Affairs in partnership with Cinéfest Sudbury presents a special screening of the family comedy Au revoir Pluton (directed by Sarianne Cormier). The film follows Pluto on a quest to join the official dance troupe of the Solar System.

LGS Live in Concert (« La francophonie... ça SWING ! »): 

• On Wednesday, September 23 at 7:30 PM, legendary group LGS (Le Groupe Swing) takes the stage at the Alphonse-Raymond Building. The high-energy, festive performance celebrates Francophone culture across campus. Admission is free, with advance registration required via Eventbrite.

Official Flag Raising Ceremony: 

• On Friday, September 25 at 12:00 PM, students, faculty, and staff are invited to assemble for the official raising of the Franco-Ontarian flag, followed by community celebrations on campus.

"Franco-Ontarian Day is a cornerstone moment for our university to honour our bilingual heritage and celebrate the vitality of our Francophone community," said Marc R. Lavigne, Director of the Office of Francophone Affairs. "From live music to cinema, these events offer everyone on campus an opportunity to come together, connect, and celebrate our shared pride."
