National Indigenous “Nitaamgayaajig” Peoples Day 2026

Join us for a day of celebration, reflection, and community as we honour National Indigenous Peoples Day. We are thrilled to host a full day of programming, featuring a keynote address from Niigan (James) Sinclair, award-winning writer and professor at the University of Manitoba.

  • 8:45 a.m.: Sacred Fire with Jason Nakogee
  • 9:00 a.m.: Opening & welcoming remarks
  • 9:30 a.m.: Truth and Reconciliation Taskforce Interim Report Card presentation
  • 10:00 a.m.: Keynote speaker: Niigan (James) Sinclair
  • 11:30 a.m.: Q & A session
  • 11:45 a.m.: Lunch
  • 1:00 p.m.: Eagle Staff presentation
  • 1:15 p.m.: Wampum Belt presentation
  • 1:30 p.m.: Introduction of Kristan Straub, Laurentian’s first Indigenous Chancellor
  • 2:00 p.m.: Closing remarks & drum song
