Laurentian University Appoints Industry Liaison Officer to Strengthen Mining and Critical Minerals Partnerships

(July 22, 2026) - Laurentian University has recently appointed Dylan Rietze as its first dedicated Industry Liaison Officer (ILO). Funded through Intellectual Property Ontario (IPON), the role is focused on connecting mining and critical minerals companies with Laurentian's research expertise, funding opportunities, and commercialization supports. Rietze brings a background in life sciences, innovation ecosystems and Indigenous community engagement to a position that will strengthen collaboration between the University and the mining sector.

This appointment is effective June 2026.

The appointment comes at a time when collaboration between universities, government, and the private sector is becoming increasingly important to addressing complex challenges and creating new opportunities for research and innovation. Embedded in the Office of Research and Innovation Services, this role will facilitate connections between industry and the University's researchers, expertise and facilities.

Rietze will work with faculty engaged in mining-related research across disciplines and within Laurentian's Senate-approved research centres to build and strengthen industry relationships, facilitate collaborative research projects, connect partners with provincial and federal funding opportunities, and support commercialization through agencies such as Intellectual Property Ontario (IPON).

The role will also work closely with the Goodman School of Mines (GSM) to support the implementation of the recently launched Minerals and Mining Strategy by facilitating industry engagement, supporting partnership development, and contributing to collaborative initiatives.
