Responsibilities
Vacancy Status: New position
Reporting to the Director, Research Security and Institutional Programs, the Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Impact Research Advisor provides guidance to support the implementation of the University's Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Action Plan for the Canada Research Chairs Program. The Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Impact Research Advisor creates in-house training programs, advises the Office of Research and Innovation Services on equity and inclusion initiatives, and facilitates programs that enhance knowledge mobilization, science communication, and research impact across the University. Additionally, the incumbent guides institutional nominations for numerous awards, chairs, and prizes through an inclusive research assessment framework, cultivates strategic partnerships alongside the Office of the Vice-President Research, and coordinates campus events celebrating research excellence.
Research EDI Integration
- Supports the implementation of Laurentian University’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Action Plan for the Canada Research Chairs (CRC) Program.
- Develops in-house EDI training opportunities for researchers to build capacity and awareness across the institutional research enterprise.
- Provides guidance and subject-matter expertise within the Office of Research and Innovation Services (ORIS) on matters pertaining to equity, diversity, and inclusion impacting research and innovation.
Knowledge Mobilization & Research Impact
- Coordinates initiatives out of the Office of Research and Innovation Services (ORIS) that enhance knowledge mobilization, science communication, and research impact.
- Identifies and develops strategic relationships locally, nationally, and internationally in partnership with the Office of the Vice-President Research to increase the reach of research and elevate the institutional research profile.
- Collaborates with staff in the ORIS to assist faculty, staff, and students in developing knowledge mobilization plans that recognize research co-creation and purposeful research impact outputs.
- Facilitates institutional participation in Research Impact Canada (RIC).
Institutional Awards & Event Coordination
- Supports the administration of institutional nominations for awards, chairs, and prizes provided through limited allocations by developing a framework for inclusive research assessment of excellence.
- Assists with major institutional and external award and chair programs, including Canada Research Chairs (CRC), Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Impact Awards, internal university research fellowships and excellence awards, and Royal Society of Canada (RSC) nominations.
- Coordinates campus events celebrating research excellence, including Research Week, formal visits with national and international delegations, meetings with government officials, and research funding announcements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Other Duties
- Performs other duties within the professional scope and skill level of the position, in full compliance with applicable legislation, university policies, and collective agreements.
Qualifications
- Master’s/Graduate degree in Science Communication or a research-based discipline.
- Three(3) to five (5) years of research related EDI work experience , including implementing equity programs and initiatives or in a relevant field. And experience leading research impact initiatives.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated problem-solving, attention to detail, and conflict resolution skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to meet deadlines.
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision, take initiative, and collaborate effectively within a team environment.
- Proven discretion and sound judgment when managing highly confidential business, financial, or personnel data.
- Understanding of the processes involved in managing external grants and research funds, including compliance with funding agency regulations.
- Initiate, plan, and manage comprehensive research projects addressing priority strategic goals and complex organizational challenges.
- Experience developing and delivering Equity, Diversity and Inclusion training tailored for researchers.
- Experience organizing institutional events to showcase inclusive research excellence.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with organization-wide committees, diverse stakeholders, and equity-deserving individuals and groups.
- Ability to work fluently (verbal and written) in both official languages, French and English, is required.

The official University hours of operation shall be from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, during, and including, the months from September to April, and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m Monday through Friday during and including May to August., amounting to thirty-three and three-quarter (33.75) hours per week.
