Responsibilities
Reporting to the Associate Vice-President Students , the Manager, Health & Wellness Services is responsible for ensuring effective management of the health services operations while also serving in the role of a nurse practitioner. In this role they coordinate all operations of Health & Wellness Services, provide high-quality patient care to students, faculty, and staff, and implement health promotion and prevention programs.
Coordinate the business management of health services:
- Prepare statistics and year-end reports to assess performance and guide decision-making.
- Manage supply ordering and inventory monitoring.
- Develop and oversee the department’s budget, implementing necessary financial controls.
- Establish departmental policies and procedures, and ensure quality assurance for services provided.
- Maintain accurate and confidential electronic health records, and assist in compiling epidemiological data.
- Supervise staff and manage personnel-related matters.
Health assessment, diagnosis, and therapeutic management:
- Conduct focused and advanced health assessments, including comprehensive health histories and physical examinations, and interpret results to diagnose health risks and conditions.
- Synthesize assessment data to formulate diagnoses using client information and evidence-based practices, while identifying and addressing emergent, urgent, and life-threatening situations with appropriate interventions.
- Order and perform diagnostic tests to diagnose diseases, injuries, and health needs, and communicate findings, diagnoses, outcomes, and care options to clients.
- Educate and counsel clients on diagnoses, prognoses, self-management strategies, and medication therapy, including prescribing medications and providing follow-up care guidance.
- Evaluate and adjust care plans based on client progress, manage billing for visits, and collaborate with psychotherapists, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals.
Health promotion and prevention of illness and injury:
- Lead or collaborate on health promotion initiatives within the university and community.
- Analyze client and population health trends to develop targeted strategies.
- Participate in policy development and design services aimed at reducing the risk of illness and injury.
- Implement evaluation processes to monitor and assess the effectiveness of health programs.
Collaboration, consultation, and referrals:
- Act as a consultant and refer clients to other healthcare providers, advocating for appropriate therapeutic interventions and care.
- Promote interprofessional, client-centered care by facilitating communication and collaboration with external healthcare providers, community organizations, and non-healthcare professionals.
- Coordinate with external healthcare providers and support services to ensure comprehensive care, collaborating with other healthcare professionals in mental health programs.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Nursing or equivalent
- Five (5) to Seven (7) years of relevant experience
- Nurse Practitioner certificate preferably with a focus in primary healthcare; specialty courses such as Occupational Health Nursing, Community Health Nursing, etc.
- Exceptional clinical skills and crisis management
- Ability to work fluently (verbal and written) in both official languages, French and English, is required.
The official University hours of operation shall be from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, during, and including, the months from September to April, and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m Monday through Friday during and including May to August., amounting to thirty-three and three-quarter (33.75) hours per week.
