Responsibilities
Reporting to the Business Manager, Faculty of Education and Health, the successful candidate will:
- Organize and supervise all aspects of the practicum component of the program and help to define its goals and objectives; recruit host/associate schools and host/associate teachers verifying their suitability, and set up the practicums; monitor all practicum sessions;
- Authorize any necessary changes to individual placements and/or resolve problems;
- Plan the assignment of faculty advisors and coordinate faculty supervisory duties;
- Collect, analyze, and file evaluative reports, and provide for counseling and appropriate follow-up and assistance in the schools;
- Prepare reports and statistical summary reports;
- Register marks/report assessments;
- Organize and chair all meetings with host/associate teachers, faculty advisors, student teachers, and of the Practicum Committee;
- Answer questions about the placement program, striving for good public relationships and carry out all new suggested initiatives;
- Handle all required correspondence, keep practicum handbooks and evaluation forms up to date;
- Preparation and proper designation of all materials; determine budgetary amounts, prepare accounts, and ensure their timely payment; maintain the ongoing quality of the program through regular assessment and evaluation of goals; P
- Participate in setting up the school year calendar especially for practicums;
- Handle relevant correspondence and meet with education students as required;
- Stay up to date and inform on all changes and memos from the Ontario College of Teachers;
- Help to organize various special events and activities and promote and set up employment fairs for graduating B. Ed. students and facilitate on-campus recruitment;
- Could travel throughout the province in order to set up placements;
- The successful candidate will represent the School of Education on relevant committees;and
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Education degree and membership in the Ontario College of Teachers considered an asset;
- Expertise in setting up projects;
- Elementary or secondary school teaching experience considered an asset;
- Knowledge of the academic environment;
- Experience within the wider educational community;
- Knowledge of the overall aims of the School of Education;
- Engagement with various groups or individuals to promote the overall interests of the School of Education.
- Detailed knowledge of the goals, aims, and structure of the practicum component of the program.
- Knowledge relating to the system of education in Ontario;
- Mastery of oral and written English and competence in writing letters, official reports etc.
- Ability to conceptualize, synthesize, direct, analyze, organize, evaluate, and reflect.
- Ability to work with various computer databases and coordinate effectively with school databases.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to work fluently (verbal and written) in both official languages, French and English, is required.
The official University hours of operation shall be from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday,mduring, and including, the months from September to April, and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m Monday
through Friday during and including May to August., amounting to thirty-three and three-quarter (33.75) hours per week.
