We ask questions like:
- What do children understand about what other people think and do?
- What kinds of behaviours do children think are good or bad?
- How does children’s understanding of other people’s thoughts and actions fit in with
their own behaviour?
These questions come from Philosophy & Psychology and have fascinated scholars for many hundreds – and even thousands – of years!
Where Research is Child’s Play!
To answer our research questions, we play games and tell stories to children that we designed to measure what they understand about people’s thoughts and actions! Their answers help us figure out what most children their age think and understand, how these different pieces fit together, and how children’s understanding relates to their own behaviour.
A Visit to the Lab
A visit to the Minds & Morality Lab takes about an hour and a half. During our time together we play many different short games, we take a break and have a snack, and then we keep on playing. Each game is only a few minutes long and most children and families have lots of fun!
