Reporting to the Manager, Micro-credentials and non-credit programming, the Pathways Coordinator plays a pivotal role in enhancing access to higher education through the development and implementation of innovative learning pathways at Laurentian University. This position is responsible for collaborating with academic Faculties to identify and develop Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) pathways, enabling students with non-traditional academic backgrounds to seamlessly complete degree programs. Furthermore, the Coordinator will lead the initiative to identify and develop micro-credentials to complement existing for-credit programming, making specialized knowledge and skills accessible to a broader range of learners within and beyond the university community.
PLAR Program Development & Implementation:
- In collaboration with Faculties, identify and formalize existing degree programs to incorporate PLAR principles, creating alternative admission and progression pathways.
- Building upon existing Laurentian University PLAR policies and procedures, develop and formalize credit recognition processes for students who may not possess traditional academic documentation.
- Incorporate research and best practices from relevant projects, including the recently completed ONCAT project, to inform the development of robust and equitable PLAR pathways.
Micro-Credential Development:
- Conduct a comprehensive academic review of existing for-credit programming across all Faculties to identify opportunities for the development of new, standalone, or stackable micro-credentials.
- Work with academic and community stakeholders to design, create and implement these credentials for various learner groups, including undergraduate students, graduate students, and community members
- Support the promotion and marketing of newly developed micro-credentials.
Reporting and Analysis:
- Maintain accurate records of PLAR applications, assessments, and micro-credential enrollment.
- Prepare regular reports on the progress and impact of PLAR and micro-credential initiatives.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Education, Adult Learning, Curriculum Development, or a related field.
- Minimum of two (2) to five (5) years of experience in higher education, preferably in academic advising, program development, or admissions.
- Proven expertise in Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) principles and best practices.
- Familiarity with current trends and best practices in micro-credentials and alternative credentialing.
- Strong understanding of university academic policies and procedures.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication (written and verbal) in both English and French, and presentation skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work fluently (verbal and written) in both official languages, French and English, is required.
The official University hours of operation shall be from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, during, and including, the months from September to April, and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m Monday through Friday during and including May to August., amounting to thirty-three and three-quarter (33.75) hours per week.
