Responsibilities

Reporting to the Associate Vice-President, Faculty Support, the Manager, Faculty Support and Development will provide representation, support and advice regarding academic labour and employment matters. Utilizing exceptional communication, influencing and collaboration skills, the Manager, Faculty Support and Development will actively promote and foster a positive and constructive employee and labour relations environment.

Labour Relations & Strategic Advising

  • Foster an environment that supports a pro-active and constructive relationship with labour partners through the effective, consistent and collaborative administration of relevant policies, past practice, arbitration decisions, legislation and the collective agreements. 
  • Utilize a proactive problem-solving approach to manage conflict and/or resolve difficult employment situations, consistent with the University's policies, collective agreements, past practices, arbitration precedents and applicable legislation. 
  • Provide assistance to stakeholders on the interpretation and application of collective agreements, relevant policies, arbitration decisions, and applicable legislation.
  • Assist in the collective bargaining process, including conducting research, analyzing data and trends and helping to prepare bargaining proposals. 
  • Provide ongoing assistance and guidance to Academic Leaders in all aspects of talent management and labour relations.

Training & Development

  • Manage, develop and deliver workshops and/or training for stakeholders on the administration of the collective agreement and best practices in labour relations;
  • Develop and deliver training, education and orientation sessions to Faculty and Academic Leaders.

Recruitment

  • Oversee the recruitment of Faculty including the development of talent acquisition strategies, providing education and resources to hiring committees, salary negotiations, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Human Resources, Psychology or related field is required.
  • A Master’s Degree in Labour Relations, Business Administration or L.L.B/J.D is an asset
  • Five (5) to Eight (8) years of relevant experience 
  • A CHRP/CHRL designation is an asset
  • Experience assessing and interpreting complex collective agreement language and providing effective guidance to stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in successful conflict resolution.
  • Experience handling contentious matters with sensitivity, confidentiality, and balance.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including adept listening skills. 
  • Exceptional facilitation and negotiation skills. 
  • Excellent organizational skills to prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment with changing deadlines and the need to respond quickly to meet departmental/employee needs and resolve problems. 
  • Third party facilitation / mediation training is an asset.
  • Ability to work fluently (verbal and written) in both official languages, French and English, is an asset.

The official University hours of operation shall be from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, during, and including, the months from September to April, and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday during and including May to August., amounting to thirty-three and three-quarter (33.75) hours per week.
