As a proud international student who studied commerce at Laurentian, Erika speaks 4 languages and has over 10 years of experience in the international education sector. Erika has a very deep understanding and insight of the international student perspective as she experienced international education first-hand. Originally born in Hungary and having lived in 2 different countries, she brings a very experienced motherly approach to supporting our young students, whom most are leaving their homes for the first-time.
Erika has coordinated and collaborated with other departments to deliver some of our most memorable international events including International Education Week, a global celebration to highlight benefits for students’ studying abroad. Erika is our current University Health Insurance plan administrator for international students’ health coverage. She works closely with our student engagement team to guide them with experiential learning skills in a workplace. She is a co-lead for the International Student Activity Program Committee. This committee organizes cultural or social programming throughout the year to bring students together: including Orientation, information sessions, social trips, cultural celebrations and graduation. She is on her way to complete her Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) and we wish her the best of luck in her studies!

Manager, Transitions & Engagement
Hello, Bonjour, Aanii,
My name is Valerie and my role involves facilitating the transition of domestic and international students to Laurentian University. Moreover, my team and I engage in upper-year students’ learning and leadership development. International students are also afforded support and guidance in obtaining services throughout their Laurentian journey with us being the main first point of contact with them.
Originally from Sudbury, I am a proud Franco-Ontarian and Métis having had the pleasure of working at Laurentian since 2013 in a number of positions. Notably, I was involved in leading and collaborating towards Laurentian’s first TEDxTalk in 2014 and the Laurentian Cool Kids Lead program, an anti-bullying initiative where three hundred Laurentian students made a difference in the lives of over eight thousand local youth; our students’ championed tolerance and the development of self-worth in an effort to put an end to fear-based bullying.
In mentoring students, I share lessons learned playing alongside Olympians for a championship-winning team in the Canadian’s Women’s Hockey League. A winning mindset and attitude is an asset whether you are a new student or as a First-Year Campus Coach as part of our upper-year development program. You can achieve anything you set your mind to and the Laurentian Transition and Engagement team is here to help!
