November 17, 2020

A Message for Laurentian University International Students

Winter 2021 Arrivals and Courses

With your health and wellbeing in mind, Laurentian University courses will continue to be offered online and through remote delivery for the Winter term, with the exception of some courses that require a hands-on component. Courses begin on January 11, 2021.

The Laurentian campus remains open and we are ready to welcome you, safely, to our residences.

Preparing for Your Arrival

International students may travel to Canada on or after October 20, 2020 with a valid study permit or letter of introduction.  We look forward to welcoming you on campus!

The Government of Canada has introduced some recent changes to travel for international students coming to Canada.*

Immigration Requirements

A reminder from the Government of Canada: “Travellers should not make any travel plans until they have met all requirements and received all necessary authorizations.”

The government of Canada has CONFIRMED that Laurentian University is on the approved list of designated learning institutions (DLI) with a COVID-19 readiness plan. As such, you will need the following documents as well for your travels:

  • Passport

  • Original valid Study Permit or valid Letter of Introduction

  • The letter of acceptance (offer of admission) from Laurentian University

  • Proof of financial support

  • Travellers coming to Canada by air will be required to use the ArriveCAN before they board their flight. They will need to provide travel and contact information, a quarantine plan, and a COVID-19 symptom self-assessment. Travellers will need to be ready to show their ArriveCAN receipt when seeking entry into Canada; a border services officer will verify that they have submitted their information digitally. Before this time air travellers can expect to be reminded by their air carrier of the need to submit COVID-related information digitally through ArriveCAN prior to boarding their flight to Canada.

Residence and Quarantine Period

Laurentian Residences remain open for the Winter 2021 and Spring terms. To ease your transition to Canada, your Residence provides:

  • safe and secure quarantine space in Residence

  • a Food & Care Kit to help you through the mandatory 14 day quarantine period

  • on-site COVID-19 testing

Reserve your quarantine space a minimum of 14 days before your arrival. For more information, please contact residences@laurentian.ca

We wish you a safe journey to our campus

* From the update: “Starting October 20, 2020, Designated Learning Institutions (DLI) with a COVID-19 readiness plan approved by their province or territory will be able to reopen to international students who are currently outside Canada.”
