At the beginning of the first term, all first year chemistry and biochemistry students receive the following, free of charge:
- Lab coat with Chemistry & Biochemistry Department logo
- Safety glasses
- Chemistry or Biochemistry T-shirt
Over the years, alumni of the department as well as retired faculty or staff made monetary donations to the department. These monies were invested, and now the interest is used to provide scholarships and bursaries to students registered in Chemistry or Biochemistry programmes.
In 2018, the department handed over $11,000 in scholarships and bursaries to 25 undergraduate and graduate students registered in our Chemistry and Biochemistry programmes.

The aim of the mentoring program is to provide Chemistry and Biochemistry students with a mentor who can answer questions, provide academic advice and/or help the student navigate through appropriate administrative/academic units. First year and second year university students will be paired with a designated faculty/staff member with (generally) three meetings scheduled during the school semester.
