The Laurentian Research Institute for Aging is inviting applications for the position of a research intern based at Finlandia Village. This is a one-year term position working will provide a candidate the opportunity to learn while working with seniors supporting our research team.

Responsibilities

Seniors are at high risk of loneliness, depression, and loss of meaning. LRIA is engaged in a program of research studying how positive psychology interventions improve wellbeing. This work is based on the PERMA model (addressing Pleasure, Engagement, Meaning, Positive Relationship and Accomplishment. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop a number of research skills. This may include interviewing, conducting interventions, assisting with publication, and analysis of data. They will act as part of a teaching environment, training and supporting students interested in getting research experience. This candidate will have the opportunity to build partnerships with key stakeholders at Finlandia Village, establish informal connections with seniors in the community and at other residences.

Qualifications

This position is funded largely by a grant from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation, and thus the candidate must meet certain criteria. Although there is no age restriction, candidates for this position must meet certain criteria. Specific requirements as follows:

  • University or college graduate who has graduated within the last three years from an accredited college or university. The candidate must be a graduate of a post-secondary degree or diploma program. 
  • The position will be a first full-time employment in the candidate’s field of study.
  • Candidates are only eligible to participate in the internship program one time.   
  • Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

The rate of pay is $18.50/hour, and the contract is for 37.5 hours per week for 52 weeks.
