Full-Time Appointment 

THIS POSITION IS DESIGNATED AS ONE THAT MAY REQUIRE A DIFFERENT WORK WEEK AND/OR HOURS OF WORK. , The current Schedule is Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. (summer hours), or Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (winter hours).  Upon four weeks’ notice, the work week and/or hours of work may be changed.  (This may include evening and/or weekend shifts.)

 

Responsibilities

Working as part of the Bharti School of Engineering & Computer Science, the Technologist will:

  • Set up and/or supervise laboratory experiments for students in undergraduate Chemical engineering courses (including mineral processing and extractive metallurgy); 
  • Organize and attend field trips and external site visits for undergraduate engineering students;
  • Provide students with engineering laboratory instruction, including the delivery of pre-lab lecture; instruction includes relevant theoretical and practical information to support the laboratory exercise; 
  • Assist in specification, procurement, maintenance and implementation of laboratory equipment;
  • Mark and/or evaluate lab work produced by students; 
  • Teach lab report methodology, and then assist students with the preparation of their lab reports;
  • Perform other duties directly related to this position as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or College Diploma in Chemical Technology, or a closely-related discipline;
  • 3-5 years of experience in chemical and process engineering, extractive metallurgy, mineral processing and chemical and plant design; 
  • Proven ability to organize, attend and support students on external site visits;
  • Ability to prioritize according to students’ learning needs, and possess a good rapport with students;
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills; 
  • Ability to work fluently, oral and written, in both official languages (French/English) is required.
