To maintain SPAD as the best, we will require the best curriculum, professors, internships and most importantly the best group of incoming students annually.
In order to help achieve these goals we have developed a formal SPAD Advisory Board, which was formed with the support and consultation of several notable alumni and whose goal will be to work with the university and connect with alumni to deliver the best sports management program in Canada.
With that, we are delighted to announce that Dale Hooper will become Chair of the Advisory Board. As a ‘91 SPAD grad, Dale brings enthusiasm and passion along with a successful career story to the Board. He will work closely with both the University and SPAD Leadership groups. We are looking forward to Dale helping recruit some great talent to the Board from the business community across Canada.
Celebrating 50 years of SPAD
That's a lot of alumni!
Taking place in the fall of 2022, the SPAD 50th Anniversary will be a major event to celebrate our successes and provide an opportunity to reconnect. We are expecting to have a great weekend of activities and want to get as many of the alumni involved as possible.
If you are interested in joining one of the several planning sub-committees, please email Diane Mihalek. A Hold the Date note will be issued in the coming months.
The SPAD Huddle - a virtual speaker series featuring SPAD alumni and sports business professionals. This first event (June 19) gave us an opportunity to hear directly from four sport and industry leaders as they discussed The Sports Business Industry and the Impact of COVID-19. This event was a memorable mix of insightful commentary and social banter as many joined their classmates in breakout rooms for some networking, following the main session.
Due to COVID-19, this year’s SPAD Alumni Golf Classic has been cancelled. All those who registered will be contacted soon regarding their registration. Stay tuned for more information on this great event in 2021!

Our SPAD program stands at a pivotal point in its history. As we approach our 50th year, we believe that success can be attributed to our strong history, our incredible alumni network and the experience students gain through our program.
However, the world and our industry are rapidly changing, and we must have a vision and direction that differentiates our position in the sports management landscape and ensures we’re able to meet the needs of our students and alumni moving forward.
Now is the time for rebuilding and bold thinking and, in an effort to achieve these goals, we’ve created the SPAD Enhancement Fund. Working together, the SPAD Advisory Board and the department will put your money to work to invest in projects and initiatives to help ensure students continue to get the dynamic learning experience that you remember.
By donating today and joining our SPAD Leaderboard, your gifts will directly support the School of Sports Administration’s projects, strategies, and initiatives led by volunteers and the program.
As part of their coursework, SPAD students have been writing profiles on our graduates for the past three years. There are over 50 profiles on our graduates, as written by third year students.
Dr. Robert Haché, Laurentian University President & Vice-Chancellor
"The SPAD program has produced many engaged and successful alumni - from leaders of sports organizations, to innovators in business, and champions in their communities. These graduates have an incredible passion for their program and we look forward to their engagement in ensuring the program's continued success over the next 50 years.”
Tom Blake, Lecturer and graduate of SPAD’s inaugural class in 1976
“SPAD was created because the NHL wanted people with a passion for sport and business acumen to come in and run the business, rather than simply former players. Today, we’re delivering on that original mission while producing top quality business professionals.
We invite you all to complete the play; provide your information, engage with SPAD and support SPAD in being the Premier Sports Management Program in Canada.”
