Biography
Dr. Reuben Roth is an Associate Professor in the Workplace & Labour Studies program, which is housed in the School for Northern and Community Studies. His main areas of research include: the sociology of work and organizations, class identity & working-class consciousness, labour education, labour history, unionization, education & work, occupational health & safety, race/gender/ethnic identity in the workplace, and global national/ethnic identity.
Among the topics Dr. Roth has written about and researched are:occupational health and safety, the Canadian automotive and mining industries, workplace-based violence, Canadian union education programs, and informally-acquired knowledge.
Dr. Roth has taught at Laurentian University since 2005. He is also a former Research Associate at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto - OISE/UT (1995-2003), a former Researcher and Project Manager for the Centre for the Study of Work and Society at York University (2002-04), an adjunct professor of sociology at Trent University (2001-2005), and a speech writer at Queen’s Park (1994-1995).
