Biography

Elizabeth joined the School of Rural and Northern Health (SRNH) at Laurentian University in 2007 where she teaches in the Interdisciplinary PhD Program in Rural and Northern Health. She was the SRNH Director from July 2011- June 2018 and Interim Research Director of CRaNHR from April 2010 to June 2011. She is also the Research Director for the Physician Assessment and Clinical Education (PACE) Program at the University of California San Diego. 

Elizabeth completed her PhD in Medical Sciences (Field: Health Services Research) in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto in 2004. Elizabeth's research interests lie in the areas of physician performance, medical regulation, continuing professional development, and program evaluation. Her current research activities investigate the factors that influence practice performance throughout a physician's career, particularly focusing on understanding the relationships between performance, the practice environment and continuing competence.

Elizabeth supervises graduate students in the Masters in Interdisciplinary Health, Interdisciplinary PhD in Rural and Northern Health, Masters in Human Kinetics and Masters of Indigenous Relations.

Research

Research Activities:

  • Elizabeth's research interests lie in the areas of physician performance, physician regulation, continuing medical education/professional development, and rural physician practice. She works collaboratively on various research projects with medical regulatory authorities from across Canada and physician competence and performance assessment programs across the United States.
