Biography
Dr. Wenghofer completed her PhD in Medical Sciences (Field: Health Services Research) in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto in 2004. She joined the School of Rural and Northern Health (SRNH) at Laurentian University in 2007 where she teaches in the Interdisciplinary PhD Program in Rural and Northern Health. She was the SRNH Director from July 2011- June 2018. She is also the Research Director for the Physician Assessment and Clinical Education (PACE) Program at the University of California San Diego. Dr. Wenghofer holds adjunct appointments with the Faculties of Medicine at UC San Diego and Texas A&M. Prior to joining Laurentian, she led the research activities of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario for eleven years.
Dr. Wenghofer’s research interests lie in the areas of physician performance, medical regulation, continuing professional development, rural physicians and program evaluation. She has partnered and conducted collaborative work with the Medical Council of Canada, the National Board of Medical Examiners, the College of Family Physicians of Canada, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, multiple provincial medical regulators, and several large physician assessment organizations across the United States. Her current research activities investigate the factors that influence practice performance throughout a physician's career, particularly focusing on understanding the relationships between performance, the practice environment, and continuing competence.
Dr. Wenghofer teaches and supervises graduate students in the Interdisciplinary PhD in Rural and Northern Health and Masters in Interdisciplinary Health.

Research Activities:
- Elizabeth's research interests lie in the areas of physician performance, physician regulation, continuing medical education/professional development, and rural physician practice. She works collaboratively on various research projects with medical regulatory authorities from across Canada and physician competence and performance assessment programs across the United States.
