Biography

Before being appointed Director of the School of Rural and Northern Health on July 1, 2011, Elizabeth served as Interim Research Director of CRaNHR from April 2010 to June 2011. She joined the School of Rural and Northern Health at Laurentian University in 2007 where she teaches in the Interdisciplinary PhD Program in Rural and Northern Health.

Elizabeth completed her PhD in Medical Sciences (Field: Health Services Research) at the Institute of Medical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto in 2005. Elizabeth's research interests lie in the areas of physician performance, continuing medical education/professional development, health human resources planning, professional governance and program evaluation. Her current research activities investigate the factors that influence practice performance throughout a physician's career, particularly focusing on understanding the relationships between performance, the practice environment and continuing professional development.

Elizabeth supervises graduate students in the Masters in Interdisciplinary Health, Interdisciplinary PhD in Rural and Northern Health and the Masters in Human Kinetics.

Research Activities:

  • Elizabeth's research interests lie in the areas of physician performance, continuing medical education/professional development, health human resources planning, and professional governance.

  • Prior to joining Laurentian in 2007, Elizabeth was the Research Manager for the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario for 11 years.  
  • Elizabeth also sits on the Board of Directors of the  Coalition for Physician Enhancement (CPE) and serves as the Chair of the CPE Research Committee.
  • In addition, she is also the Research Director for the Physician Assessment and Clinical Education (PACE) Program at the University of California, San Diego
  • Other activities include:
    • Canadian Medical Association Management Advisory Committee for the Canadian Collaborative Centre for Physician Resources (C3PR).
    • External Research Advisory Committee Member, College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario
    • Member of the ​Canadian Health Human Resources Research Network

Teaching

Elizabeth supervises graduate students in the Interdisciplinary PhD in Rural and Northern Health (IRNH) Masters in Interdisciplinary Health (INDH).
