Don’t have snowshoes or skis? You can rent snowshoes from the BioSki Cross-Country Ski and Snowshoe Club or from the Greater Sudbury Public Library. The Laurentian Nordic Ski Club also offers ski rentals.
Ice Skating
Grab your skates and glide across a frozen lake! Just a short walk from campus, the Ramsey Lake Skating Path is a fun and unique way to enjoy winter.
Canoeing, Kayaking and Paddleboarding
Even when the ice melts, there’s still more to explore! Paddle through serene waters and enjoy the beauty of Northern Ontario.
Want to learn? The Sudbury Canoe Club offers lessons and equipment rentals at the Northern Water Sports Centre on Lake Ramsey.

Swimming at the Beach
Staying on campus for the summer? Cool off by swimming in one of the five nearby lakes on campus.
Laurentian University students can also access the quiet and private Laurentian Beach along the north shore of Nepawhin Lake. It’s the perfect way to relax and recharge!
Hiking and Mountain Biking
Trek through scenic trails on foot or by bike. The Lake Laurentian Conservation Area that adjoins the Laurentian University campus offers over 40km of trails to explore. With so many paths to choose from, every trip is a new adventure!
Birdwatching and Plant Identification
With acres of forests and wetlands right next to campus, you’ll have endless opportunities to discover the native wildlife and plants!
