Career Prospects

Body:

What comes next after graduating with diploma in
French Studies or French as a Second Language?
What are career and future prospects?

In addition to expanding critical thinking and analysis skills, programs in French allow students to acquire and develop superior abilities, such as:

•   writing and communication skills

•   ability to produce effective written work

•   explanation of concepts

•   research skills

•   ability to summarize clearly and concisely

•   ability to understand and analyze texts

•   knowledge of language history

•   interview skills

And the list goes on. A degree in Études françaises can lead to many professional opportunities in the public and private sectors: teaching (B.Ed. required), public relations, communications, creative and professional writing, proofreading, text transformation, language planning, cultural development, etc.

Graduates of French as a Second Language/Français langue seconde also have careers in the public and private sectors: teaching (B.Ed. required), communications, public relations, public service, etc.

Some bilingual graduates may choose to pursue studies in translation or interpretation. This is an interesting option given the recent shortage of professionals in this field. There are many excellent renowned schools of translation in Canada and Europe.
