Gender and Family in Early Christianity

This course examines ancient Christian understandings of gender and family, with an emphasis upon the social, sexual, political, and religious characteristics of Greco-Roman antiquity. It focuses upon reading primary texts critically with attention to social history and ideology. This course explores various ways in which concepts of gender and family shaped texts and practices both in the ancient world and today. (S) (lec 3) cr 3.
