Responsibilities
Reporting to the Dean of the Faculty of Management, the Coordinator of International Affairs will:
- Establish relationships with potential international partners (schools, businesses);
- Foster relationships with current partners;
- Attend training and conferences deemed important to further the mission of the Faculty of Management;
- Monitor trends in international recruitment to assess potential countries for continued growth;
- Identify, research and evaluate funding sources and agencies that will support international projects, contracts, research for faculty and scholarships for students;
- Help prepare the Dean and/or faculty members for any events, conferences business trips etc. (Visas, booking meetings and tours, prepare detailed schedule and presentations etc.);
- Help mentor international students coming to Canada/Sudbury for the first time;
- Assist and guide International students who have needs such as academic advising, residency issues, etc.;
- Organize social events and visits of companies for International students;
- Help promote the exchange opportunities for students;
- Work with internal departments such as Liaison, Admissions, Marketing, Student Success, and Registrar’s office on recruitment and retention strategies;
- Assist the Dean in developing business plans for projects and initiatives;
- Assist visiting scholars with documentation to come to Laurentian and help set them up once they arrive;
- Provide all the relevant documentation for accreditation issues, annual reports or other types of reports; and
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must possess’ an MBA or Master’s degree in business or a relevant field;
- Minimum 4 years of related work experience in an educational institution/environment; relevant experience in proposal development and project management; and combined experience with international students, academic advising, supervision, and office management;
- Must be detail-oriented, possess strong interpersonal, organizational and time management, research and problem-solving skills ;
- Superior communication skills (oral, written and presentation) in English. Proficiency in a language(s) other than English is a strong asset;
- Being able to interpret an asset;
- Proficient in the use of software applications and social media (e.g., Office, Datatel, Facebook, Twitter, Reneren and Wechat, etc.);
- Knowledge of the education system in Canada, China, India, Europe and other major student recruitment markets;
- Excellent customer service skills and ability to work with partners, stakeholders, staff and faculty;
- Excellent event coordination skills;
- Excellent knowledge of Citizenship & Immigration Canada regulations and relevant government policies;
- Excellent budgeting skills and the demonstrated ability to proofread financial documentation and marketing/communication materials;
- Ability to work with minimum supervision;
- Ability to draft Memorandum of Understanding or Agreements;
- Ability to work occasionally during evenings or weekends;
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a high stress environment;
- Ability to exercise mature judgment, initiative, diplomacy and tact; and
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
The official University hours of operation shall be from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, during, and including, the months from September to April, and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m Monday through Friday during and including May to August., amounting to thirty-three and three-quarter (33.75) hours per week.
