Admissions Officer, Office of Admissions

Required Position

Full-Time Temporary Appointment until September 2026

 

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Manager, Office of Admissions, the Admissions Officer is responsible for evaluating domestic and international applications to undergraduate programs at the university, understanding the admissions processes and requirements for all programs offered by the university and evaluating transfer credits from other post-secondary institutions.

  • Evaluate, verify, admit, and refuse all domestic and international Graduate applications: read and interpret global education systems and grading schemes compared to the Ontario education system;
  • Support with the evaluation of applications for the admission of all domestic and international undergraduate, full-time and part-time students to the University, and its Collaborative partners;
  • Determine course equivalences for course work completed at other post-secondary institutions; both domestic and international ;
  • Assist in the review and development of admissions policies for the University;
  • Counsel students on the availability of academic programs and their admissibility to them;
  • Respond to correspondence from students, staff and faculty;
  • Prepare various reports in Colleague and Business Objects;
  • Participate in functions associated with convocation ceremonies;
  • Represent the University and make presentations at information sessions; and
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (4 year) in Business Administration, Communications, Education or in a related field; 
  • Three (3) to four (4) years of experience with the processing and evaluation of international Undergraduate and Graduate applicants, and the resources available to support this group;
  • Have a clear understanding and experience counselling international students on the availability of the academic programs and their admission requirements;
  • Strong cross-cultural communication skills, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills;
  • Sound knowledge of Global college and university education systems and grading schemes; 
  • Clear understanding of the admissions functions in Colleague, Fusion, and Business Object;
  • Extensive knowledge of the University's policies and procedures, in particular, those in the Registrar’s Office;
  • Experience with the processing and evaluation of international transfer students; 
  • Experience working within the guidelines of the Ontario education system and an understanding of the admission policies for Laurentian University;
  • Must be familiar with Google Suites, Microsoft 365; and
  • Ability to work fluently (verbal and written) in both official languages, French and English, is required.

 

The official University hours of operation shall be from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, during, and including, the months from September to April, and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m Monday through Friday during and including May to August., amounting to thirty-three and three-quarter (33.75) hours per week.
