Responsibilities
Reporting to the Manager of Operations and in consultation with the Systems Coordinator, the Library and Archives Systems Technician will ensure the stability and performance of library and archives systems, customize and enhance software, and troubleshoot software and associated hardware issues at the three locations (on campus at the main Laurentian University Library and Archives and the Education Resource Center, and downtown at the Architecture Library).
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Daily systems monitoring and maintenance;
- Administer library and archives systems (including the integrated library system, web site, institutional repository, proxy server, etc.);
- Maintain, customize and enhance library and archives systems, applying upgrades, performing backups, ensuring overall health of systems;
- Track and document all maintenance, customizations, and enhancements; maintain and update existing documents as required;
- Maintain and support software, hardware, and access to online resources in the Library and Archives;
- Liaise with Library and Archives staff and faculty for overall computing needs, providing technical service, support and maintenance of Library and Archives-specific software and hardware including scanners, microform readers, and digital forensics;
- Support Library and Archives staff and faculty with system issues, including desktop and remote access to applications where applicable;
- Assist Library & Archives staff and faculty in troubleshooting and resolving issues with Library and Archives-specific resources;
- Liaise with IT team members to respond to systems and server-related escalations;
- Liaise with library systems staff at other universities and consortial organizations (such as Scholars Portal) to resolve interaction issues with library systems and services;
- Collaborate on the assessment of emerging systems for adoption by the Library and Archives; and
- Perform other duties directly related to this position as assigned.
Qualifications
- Three-year accredited diploma in Computer Systems Technology - Software Development or related program;
- One to three years of relevant experience;
- Experience with full-stack web development; Linux system administration; and programming in Python, Java, or PHP is an asset;
- Knowledge of Library and Archives software is an asset, including Alma + Primo VE, DSpace, Drupal;
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot equipment and software issues;
- Well-developed problem-solving skills in order to identify problems, determine possible solutions and select the appropriate action;
- Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to work well with others;
- Knowledge of an Indigenous language or demonstrated fluency is an asset; and
- Ability to work fluently (verbal and written) in both official languages, French and English, is required.
The official University hours of operation shall be from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, during, and including, the months from September to April, and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m Monday through Friday during and including May to August., amounting to thirty-three and three-quarter (33.75) hours per week.
