Responsibilities

The Coordinator, Student Transitions plays a big role in student transitions to their first year at Laurentian and throughout their journey as students. The Coordinator, Student Transitions will support both on-campus and remote/distance learning students in navigating their student experience by connecting students to resources, hosting transition programming, coordinating with campus partners and the student associations, and maintaining communication with incoming students.

  • Act as a resource for students and as a liaison between students, staff and faculty at the university;
  • Provide workshops, seminars, and information sessions to students;
  • Produce and maintain technical supports and web-based resources;
  • Assist and lead the creation and delivery of programming specific to transitioning students to university studies, such as Orientation weeks (Fall, Winter, and Spring intake) and Registration events and outreach;
  • Plan and chair large collaborative meetings to assist in the planning of large-scale events (such as Orientation);
  • Work with community partners to identify potential barriers to entry for students to post-secondary education and to design responsive transition programming for these student groups;
  • Research current trends in learning and learning skills resources to develop relevant and appropriate content for transitioning students to post-secondary education at Laurentian;
  • Demonstrate ability to initiate, to innovate, and to manage time effectively and to prioritize effectively and appropriately;
  • Work collaboratively with and communicate effectively with a multidisciplinary team;
  • Build, maintain, and execute an effective and appropriate communication plan to assist students in their transition from applicant to student; and
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Four-year undergraduate degree in a related field e.g. communications, marketing, education,psychology or health related (commensurate experience acceptable)
  • Three to five years of related experience;
  • Experience supporting students from a diverse background is an asset;
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent abilities to work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team;
  • Proficiency with a variety of software applications, including but not limited to word processing,spreadsheets, database and presentation software applications, as well as proficiency in research capabilities;
  • Exercise good judgment, analytic and problem-solving skills; and
  • Ability to work fluently (verbal and written) in both official languages, French and English, is required.

 

THIS POSITION IS DESIGNATED AS ONE THAT MAY REQUIRE A DIFFERENT WORK WEEK AND/OR HOURS OF WORK.

The current Schedule is Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. (summer hours), or Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (winter hours). Upon four weeks’ notice, the work week and/or hours of work may be changed. (This may include evening and/or weekend shifts.)

The official University hours of operation shall be from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, during, and including, the months from September to April, and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m Monday through Friday during and including May to August., amounting to thirty-three and three-quarter (33.75) hours per week.
