Students must follow these regulations in order to meet graduation requirements for the BA or BSc. Note: Students may not exceed 42 credits at the 1000 or 9100 level in their degree program.

B.A. Programs

Total 120 credits with 60 in History
History Requirements:

6 credits first year HIST (1000-series)
- HIST 2026 Historical Methods (3 credits) (minimum grade of 60% required)
- 3 credits from the following: HIST 3006, HIST 3007, HIST 3096 (minimum grade of 60% required)
- 9 credits in HIST in 2000- and 3000- series North American courses (List A)
- 9 credits of HIST in 2000- and 3000- series European courses (List B)
- 18 credits additional HIST in 2000- and 3000- series
- 6 credits of HIST 4000 level seminars
- 6 credits of Arts at the 4000 level
Other Requirements:

Students may complete a Minor (24 credits) or a Major (42 credits) from a different discipline from among their elective credits.
- Electives must include 6 credits in linguistic awareness, 6 credits in indigenous content, and 6 credits in scientific literacy.

The Qualifying Year Program
A qualifying year in history is available for both full and part-time students preparing to apply for admission into the M.A. program in History. Course selection must be made in consultation with the department. Contact the Department Chair for further information.
M.A. Programs
The Graduate Program
The Master of Arts in History teaches students to excel at historical analysis. The program builds critical thinking, research and communication skills. Students pursue research interests in Northern Ontario, North American or European history in either full or part time programs. The program is offered in both French and English and normally takes two years to complete in the Thesis stream, one year in the Research Essay stream.
The areas of specialization for the Master of Arts in History are: History of Northern Ontario, North American History and European History. Students must follow one of two program streams:
Thesis Stream (24 months):
24 credits including: HIST 5066 (Historical Methods) 3cr and HIST 5000 (Master’s Thesis) 12 cr.
Essay Stream: (12 months):
24 credits including: HIST 5066 (Historical Methods) 3 cr and HIST 5050 (Master’s Essay) 6 cr.
