Laurentian University: Investing in our future

October 11, 2017

Body:

We all love our university.

Talk to anyone who is part of the Laurentian community, and you’ll hear commitment we all share to this institution. We work with great professors. Our students are among the best and brightest Canada has to offer. Our Alumni continue to champion this institution, and our researchers and programs are the envy of the post-secondary world. Our Sudbury campus is a beautiful place to enjoy all that university life has to offer.

Yesterday the Laurentian University Board of Governors unanimously ratified a new collective agreement with the Laurentian University Faculty Association (LUFA). LUFA’s members ratified the same agreement last week with a resounding majority. As Interim President of Laurentian University, I want to congratulate the members of both the LUFA and the Laurentian University negotiating teams for their dedication and hard work in reaching a fair settlement.

To faculty colleagues, I extend my thanks for your ongoing commitment to putting students first, for the important work you do every day at Laurentian University, in your research, scholarship and teaching.

To our students, please know that your education is the most important aspect of everything we do. We do not take this responsibility lightly.

Laurentian University’s investments and strategic decisions over the past few years have all been designed to build on the University’s solid foundation, to give our community the quality post-secondary experience it deserves, and to ensure that future students, faculty, and staff can continue to benefit from this world-class institution for generations to come.

Laurentian University is a community: our faculty, students and staff, along with everyone else who has made Laurentian what it is today and who help shape what it will become in the future. Working together in cooperation and mutual respect, we will continue to grow our university and build on our well-earned reputation as a leader in post-secondary education in Ontario, across Canada, and around the world.
