Jean-Pierre (Jay), Board Chair
Proud Laurentian alum Jean-Pierre (Jay) Barbeau was born in Espanola and raised in Sudbury. Jay holds an Honours Bachelor of Commerce Degree from Laurentian, a Master’s Certificate in Municipal Management from the Schulich School of Business at York University, and a Post Graduate Certificate in International Trade at Carleton University.
With his education and over thirty years of management experience, Jay found success as a senior municipal executive, including twenty-two years in his present capacity as Chief Administrative Officer for the Municipality of West Nipissing. Before working in West Nipissing, Jay held senior positions as Director of Community Development at the Town of Rayside-Balfour and Director of Business Development at Cambrian College.
As Chief Administrative Officer, Jay provides advice and strategic leadership to Council, and oversees the delivery of services that impact the lives of over 14,500 residents. Leading a team of over 250 employees, Jay manages the corporation by providing business direction, focusing on quality assurance and organizational priorities, and fostering a collaborative environment. Jay’s leadership is often defined by his commitment to empowering and encouraging his staff to strive for the best service.
Jay has extensive knowledge and experience in public sector governance, policy development, strategic planning, human resources, labour relations, accounting and finance, and operations management.
