Environmental Remediation: Global Lessons From the Sudbury Story
This course provides a comprehensive overview of the history of damage and recovery of the mining impacted landscape around Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. The application of established and more innovated techniques, especially involving microbes, in bioremediation, soil rehabilitation, pollutant neutralization and sequestration, bio-mining, and the creation of novel ecosystems is reviewed and critically examined. PREREQ: ENSC 1406 and ENVI 1507 plus 48 credits above first year and permission of the coordinator.
