Statement from President Robert Haché on the passing of Tina Sartoretto, Laurentian Alumna and Member of the Board of Governors

Body:

Hello, Aanii, Bonjour,

It is with great sadness that our community learned of the passing of Tina Sartoretto, who was not only a committed member of Laurentian’s Board of Governors since 2015, but a vibrant alumna of our University, graduating in the class of 1974.

Tina was a leader whose passion for northern Ontario was boundless. As an alumna, she had a vision for Laurentian, contributing her vast knowledge of the post-secondary education sector in the north to the work of the Board of Governors, and advocating for the excellence of our University. She was a powerful voice for Laurentian, a strong advocate of la Francophonie, a champion of northern Ontario’s immense potential.

Tina was a most engaged Board member, always contributing her important perspective and asking questions essential to the governance. She was the former Mayor of the Town of Cobalt, the former Vice-President of Academic and Student Services with Collège Boréal and former Registrar at Cambrian College. Her community involvement has included the Sudbury Sunrisers Rotary Club and United Way. Tina held a Bachelor of Physical and Health Education degree from Laurentian University and a Master of Education degree from Boston University.

Her leadership as Chair of the Joint Senate and Board Committee on Bilingualism, as the Board representative to the Senate, as a member past and present of the Staff Relations Committee, the Executive Committee and the Research Ethics Board Liaison Committee will be greatly missed.

Tina was a force of nature, a formidable advocate for the positive impacts of our University in the north and beyond. Tina remained an engaged Board member right up until her passing, and our hearts and thoughts go out to her family during this incredibly difficult time. She will be greatly missed.
